The Speech u0026 Therapy Clinic
Footscray
Footscray / Melbourne’s West & North | Flexible hours | No KPIs | Genuine autonomy The Speech & Therapy Clinic is a small, friendly team of Speech Pathologists and Allied Health Assistants based in Footscray, working primarily with paediatric clients across Melbourne’s western and northern suburbs.
We are looking for an experienced Speech Pathologist who enjoys their work, feels confident in their clinical skills, and would like the freedom to work in a way that suits both them and their life outside work.
Our team currently consists of around 12 therapists, all working different days, hours and caseloads. Some work a couple of days a week, some work more, and everyone structures their role a little differently.
We want our therapists to have enough space and autonomy to do great clinical work, enjoy their clients and still have the time and energy for the rest of their life.
A role that can fit around you
There are no minimum client numbers and no billable-hour KPIs.
You can choose
- how many clients you see
- which days and hours you work
- whether you work through school holidays
- whether you work from our Footscray clinic, in schools, in clients’ homes, or a combination
- how far you are comfortable travelling
- the types of clients and clinical areas you thrive in
Some therapists want a small caseload that fits around family or other commitments. Others prefer to work longer days and have more days off. The aim is to create a workload that feels sustainable and enjoyable, rather than expecting everyone to fit into the same model.
Clinical autonomy, with support when you want it
We trust experienced clinicians to know how they work best. You will have a great deal of autonomy over your caseload, therapy approach, scheduling and clinical decision-making.
If you have particular areas you love working in, we will do our best to match you with those clients. If there are areas you would rather avoid, that is completely fine too.
At the same time,
you are not working in isolation.
There is always someone available to talk through an interesting client, share ideas, look over a report or simply have a chat. We want therapists to feel supported without feeling supervised or micromanaged.
The kind of workplace we try to create
We value people who are kind, reliable, communicate well and respect each other’s time. You should be able to come to work, do work you feel proud of, have people around you when you need them, and then go home.
We keep meetings and administration to what is genuinely useful, and we are not interested in creating unnecessary pressure around productivity or performance.
We would much rather have a therapist seeing a manageable caseload and enjoying their job than feeling overloaded and counting down to the weekend.
Our clients
Our caseload is mainly paediatric, although we also see a smaller number of adolescents and adults.
Clients may present with
- Autism
- Global Developmental Delay
- AAC needs
- late talking
- Speech Sound Disorders
- language difficulties
- stuttering
- literacy and phonological awareness difficulties
- social communication and pragmatics
- parent coaching needs
- school consultation and career development
You certainly do not need to work across all of these areas. We pride ourselves on taking a little time to ensure the best client-therapist match which we find leads to more effective therapy for our clients and less stress for our clinicians.
Who we are hoping to find
This role would suit a Speech Pathologist who has a few years of experience behind them and is comfortable managing their own caseload. You might be looking for:
- more flexibility than your current workplace can offer
- fewer KPIs and less pressure around billable hours or better pay for the number of hours you already work
- more say in the clients you work with
- a role that fits around family or other commitments
- the freedom to work fairly autonomously while still having a supportive team around you
- a workplace you could happily stay in long term
We are very happy to hear from therapists who simply want to do good clinical work, be paid well for the work they do, enjoy the people they work with and have a healthy balance between work and everything else.
Qualifications
You will need:
- a Bachelor or Masters qualification in Speech Pathology
- current CPSP membership with Speech Pathology Australia
- NDIS workers check
Pay
Therapists are paid per client-facing hour and for billable non-face-to-face work, plus superannuation. This means you can choose how much you work without needing to meet a minimum number of billable hours.
Travel allowances are also paid for mobile therapy clients.
Remuneration is based on experience, and we are very happy to have an open conversation about what your preferred caseload and earnings might look like before you make any decisions.
Interested?
If you are an experienced Speech Pathologist who knows the kind of work you enjoy and would like a workplace that gives you the flexibility and trust to do it, we would love to hear from you. You do not need to be looking for a full-time role. We are equally happy to talk with someone wanting one or two days a week, school-hours work, or something more substantial.
Sometimes the right role is simply one that fits comfortably into your life.
