What's my job?
Located in our Melbourne office, you’re a Junior Full Stack Engineer in the Data and Technology team, working primarily on our internal suite of products.
You’ll build features and fixes across the frontend and backend, owning your tickets from build to release. You’ll be guided on what to build and increasingly trusted on how, with experienced engineers reviewing your code and helping you grow. You’ll use AI to help you build faster, ensuring you understand everything you ship.
A Day in the Life
- Build complete features across the frontend, APIs and database to a well-scoped spec.
- AI features: Build prompts, tool calls and structured output handling for AI features, with guidance on the design.
- Investigate and fix bugs across the product, including in code written by other developers.
- Test your work: Write unit and end-to-end tests, and fix defects before your work ships.
- Release and monitor: Ship your work through CI/CD, check it in production and watch for errors after release.
- Use AI to build: Use Claude Code daily with the team’s shared skills to build, test and debug your tickets. Understand what you’re building, and be able to explain every change before it goes to review.
How will we know you are the one?
- Hands-on experience building web applications across frontend and backend, and the ability to build features in React and TypeScript to a spec with light guidance.
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational data models, including writing queries and migrations.
- An understanding of how to call AI models through an API, use tools and parse structured outputs, and why outputs need checking.
- A demonstrated interest in software engineering and AI outside of work, ideally with personal projects built using AI tools.
- Curiosity, openness to feedback and a drive to keep learning.
Other things that would make you excel in this role
- Familiarity with some of the following: Deploying your own sites and infrastructure, GitHub and Linear, AI image generation, and Claude Code or other coding agents.
