Senior leadership opportunity | Brisbane | Long-term contract An independent Queensland regulatory body is seeking an experienced Legal Services Manager to lead its internal legal function and provide authoritative advice on complex legal, regulatory, governance and strategic matters. Total max salary package on offer is $187k.
As the organisation’s most senior internal legal practitioner, you will work closely with the chief executive and executive leadership team, supervise a specialist legal team and oversee the delivery of legal services across regulatory, enforcement, litigation, review and advisory matters.
This is a long-term temporary chance covering a period of leave, with the possibility of extension subject to performance and operational requirements. The successful candidate must be available to commence within two weeks of contract award.
Your new role In this influential leadership position, you will:
- Lead and provide strategic direction to the organisation’s legal function
- Provide clear, practical and authoritative advice on complex and sensitive legal matters
- Support senior executives with legal risk advice and sound decision-making
- Oversee litigation, tribunal, appeal and internal review matters
- Advise on regulatory frameworks, statutory interpretation and proposed legislative change
- Work collaboratively with external legal providers, government agencies, integrity bodies and other regulatory stakeholders
- Lead, coach and develop legal team members, supporting a high-performance and inclusive culture
- Strengthen legal governance, processes and service delivery
- Drive continuous improvement and stakeholder-focused initiatives
- Contribute to broader organisational strategy as a member of the executive leadership group
What you’ll need to succeed To be considered, you must:
- Be admitted as a lawyer or legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland
- Hold a current practising certificate
- Have at least 10 years’ post-admission experience
- Have at least five years’ experience in a senior legal position involving complex legal advice, legal risk and decision-making support
- Have at least three years’ experience within the public sector, a statutory authority, regulator, integrity body, law enforcement agency or similarly regulated environment
- Have at least two years’ experience leading a legal team, legal function or legal work program
- Demonstrate experience across at least two of the following areas: Regulatory or enforcement law, Investigations, Litigation or advocacy, Administrative law, Policy, Statutory interpretation, Governance advice
- Have highly developed drafting, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrate the ability to build capability, influence workplace culture and support organisational change
- Be able to satisfy the required probity and criminal history screening requirements
- Experience within a highly regulated or integrity-focused environment involving compliance, investigations, enforcement, appeals, licensing or similar statutory functions will be highly regarded.
