- Help design and deliver a new statewide health program led by and for First Nations communities
- Genuine part-time role: 3 days a week, with flexibility around which days
About the opportunity
We’re partnering with a well-established Adelaide-based health organisation to find a Project Officer for a recent statewide health initiative. The program is part of a larger network bringing together researchers, clinicians, public health experts and community members to improve health outcomes across South Australia.
Your focus will be on developing and delivering culturally appropriate awareness and education programs that increase health screening and early detection in First Nations communities. The program is in its first year, so you’ll come in at the planning and design stage and help shape it from the start. Over the following years the work moves into community delivery across SA, followed by evaluation and wrap-up.
You’ll work within a small team to develop, implement and refine a significant program.
What you’ll be doing
- Coordinating, planning, delivering and evaluating evidence-based strategies to increase screening and early detection in First Nations communities
- Building strong partnerships with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, primary health services and community groups so the program has lasting impact
- Developing and delivering presentations and engagement sessions for community members and health professionals
- Creating accurate, culturally appropriate print and digital resources tailored to community needs
- Using research, data and behaviour change principles to guide project planning
- Keeping stakeholder and activity records up to date in a CRM system
- Tracking milestones, producing activity reports and managing project administration
About you
Essential
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Demonstrated experience working with First Nations communities and stakeholders
You’ll also bring
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder coordination skills
- Confidence in public speaking and presenting
- Good written communication, with the ability to write for both community and health professional audiences
- Excellent time management and organisation
- The ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
Highly regarded
- Experience implementing health-related programs or projects, including project documentation and administration
- A tertiary qualification in health promotion, public health or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Project or program officer experience in government or a government-funded setting
- Experience in preventive health, health screening or public health
- Experience applying behavioural theory, research literature or data to project planning
Specialist health knowledge is not essential. If you have strong community engagement, project and communication skills, training and support will be provided.
What’s on offer
- A competitive salary plus superannuation, pro rata for 3 days per week
- Salary packaging to boost your take-home pay
- Fixed-term contract to mid-2029, employed directly by the organisation
- Meaningful, community-focused work in a supportive team
Other information
- Community-based work will increase as the program moves into the delivery phase
- Travel within SA and occasionally interstate, plus some out-of-hours or weekend work for community events
- Appointment is subject to a satisfactory National Police Check and may require a DHS screening check
