Cove is the operating entity for Deck2 Capital. Together, we acquire and operate good businesses with untapped potential and make them exceptional. We do this by taking majority positions in digital companies that distribute insurance. Cove then applies a shared platform of technology, data, talent, and playbooks to each business we acquire.
We're looking for a hands-on Quality Assurance Engineer to bring a structured testing practice to our white-label front-end platform for the travel industry. You'll be embedded in our front end team, working daily with engineering, design and product, and reporting into Product. You'll also work with teams across Cove, our acquired businesses and our Lisbon office as programs of work require.
This role is expected to help scope tickets with the developers, design structured test cases and deliver both manual and automated testing across multiple releases. Expect roughly 60% manual and 40% automation to start, shifting toward automation as each program of work matures. We're AI first, so we want you building automated tests with AI tools, not typing them out line by line.
This role is based in our harbourfront Manly office, across the road from the Ferry terminal for easy commutes. We're a hybrid workplace and ask that you work in-person 3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
Test scoping and quality ownership:
- Ticket Scoping: Work inside the front end team to scope tickets, understand how each change is built and plan how it will be tested.
- Structured Test Cases: Turn use cases and acceptance criteria into structured, reusable test cases in Jira.
- Shared Quality: Quality is owned by the whole team.
Help the team weigh bug impact against feature impact so we make good release decisions together.
Manual and exploratory testing:
- Manual Testing: Run manual and exploratory testing on new features and changes, analysing which areas of the platform each change affects.
- Bug Reporting: Write clear bug reports and work with developers to get them resolved.
- Test Data: Create and manage test data for a range of scenarios across markets and products.
AI-first test automation:
- Smoke Suite: Take over our existing automated smoke suite and expand it.
- Feature Automation: Build automated tests for every new feature and change, using AI tools to generate and maintain them.
- Regression in CI/CD: Grow that automation into full regression suites that run automatically in our CI/CD pipeline.
Your first 12 months
- 3 months: You're supporting manual testing, have picked up our smoke suite and started expanding it. You're scoping tickets with the team, understanding how changes are built, and learning our industry and business.
- 6 months: You're building automation for every feature and change alongside the team, and closing the gap between manual and automated testing.
- 12 months:
We have fully automated regression suites that run automatically in our CI/CD pipeline.
What we're looking for:
Testing expertise:
- UI-Focused Testing: Proven experience testing web applications while working directly within product or development teams.
- Test Design: The ability to understand use cases and turn them into clear test structures and test cases.
- Manual and Automated Delivery: A track record of delivering both manual and automated testing. Experience with tools like Cypress, Playwright or Selenium is highly valued.
Tooling and ways of working:
- AI First: You use AI tools to build, maintain and speed up automated tests rather than writing every line by hand.
- Agile Tooling: Comfortable working in Jira within agile teams. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, API testing tools like Postman and accessibility testing is highly valued.
Mindset:
- Curious Learner: You're keen to learn how travel insurance and car rental work and what matters to our customers. A background in travel, insurance, payments or e-commerce is a plus.
- Explicit Communicator: From test cases to bug reports, you write so others can act quickly.
Why Join

Plus, we have a competitive compensation structure that rewards outcomes and lets you share in the upside that we're creating in a more tangible way than typical start-up equity programs.
