API & Integration Support Engineer

We’re the airline that dares to be different, bold, down-to-earth and built around giving our guests real choice. Safety is our backbone, service is our heartbeat, and our people are our superpower.

At Virgin Australia, we’re on a mission to be Australia’s most loved airline, for our people, our guests and our owners — and we’re looking for passionate talent to help take us even higher.

We’re vibrant, authentic and unapologetically human. Here, you can bring your whole self, your Virgin Flair and your ambition to a team that champions individuality, innovation and a whole lot of heart. If you’re excited by meaningful work, real opportunities to grow, and a culture where you can genuinely make a difference, you’ll feel right at home with us.

Your Impact

In our IT team, we’re the engine room that keeps Virgin Australia running smoothly, blending technical excellence with that signature Virgin spirit. We’re curious problem solvers who move fast, think smart and own our impact. Whether we’re delivering seamless digital experiences or strengthening the systems that keep our operation flying, we do it with discipline, heart and a healthy dose of innovation.

As an API & Integration Support Engineer, you’ll play a key role in keeping our integration ecosystem reliable, secure and performing at its best.

This is primarily a BAU and production support role, rather than a pure API development position. You’ll provide Level 3 support across a portfolio of APIs, microservices and integration platforms, troubleshoot complex incidents, support deployments and releases, and work closely with development and support teams to maintain stable, highly available services.

You’ll also:

- Lead investigation and resolution of complex production incidents and service disruptions

- Support Level 1 and Level 2 teams during critical incidents and major outages
- Coordinate production deployments, emergency changes and release activities
- Monitor application health, performance, availability and operational risk
- Complete root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes to recurring issues
- Support vulnerability remediation, patching and lifecycle management
- Troubleshoot Spring Boot microservices, APIs and integration services across cloud environments
- Support integration technologies including Apigee, Kafka, Java and Spring Boot
- Maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides and operational knowledge
- Participate in an on-call roster and provide after-hours support when required
- Work across onshore and offshore teams to maintain seamless operational support

You’ll be outstanding in this role if you…

You’re an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex production problems and keeping business-critical platforms running reliably. You’re equally comfortable diving into logs and code, coordinating an incident, or working with development teams to identify a longer-term solution.

You’ll ideally bring:

- Around 3+ years’ experience in software engineering, application support or a similar technical role
- Strong experience providing Level 3 production support for critical applications or platforms
- Hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Experience supporting APIs, microservices and integration platforms
- Exposure to Apigee, Kafka, REST/SOAP APIs and Kubernetes/Docker

- Strong experience with incident, problem and change management in a BAU environment
- Experience coordinating deployments, releases, validation and rollback activities
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability across distributed systems
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as New Relic, Splunk, Dynatrace or Grafana
- Working knowledge of ServiceNow and ITIL practices
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud

Experience using generative AI tools such as Codex, GitHub Copilot or Claude to support development, testing and documentation would be advantageous, as would previous aviation or airline technology experience.

What you’ll get from us

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry — including:

- Discounted flights for you and your loved ones, including $1,000 worth of travel credits each year
- A flexible, hybrid work style
- One of Brisbane’s most admired head office locations in South Bank in Brisbane, as well as a beautiful Sydney CBD office
- Discounts on travel insurance, Lounge membership, car hire, accommodation and experiences worldwide
- Discounts across hospitality, retail, technology, beauty and wellness
- Free counselling and access to a wellbeing app supporting your physical, mental, social and financial health
- Dress for Your Day — enjoy the freedom to wear what suits the work you’re doing
