The company

Australian Associated Press, the nation’s independent newswire, has been creating and delivering independent, trusted news and multimedia for 90 years. It proudly operates as a non-profit organisation, delivering fact-based and non-partisan journalism to hundreds of media outlets for the benefit of all Australians.

AAPR is AAP’s evolving press release distribution service, helping organisations connect their news with relevant journalists and newsrooms through AAP’s national Newswire and broader distribution services.

The role

AAP is looking for an Account Manager to build and grow client relationships and help shape the evolution of AAPR. The role offers hybrid working across remote work and Sydney CBD.

You will manage a portfolio of clients, understand their communications objectives and advise on audience targeting, distribution options, timing, release readiness and post-distribution reporting. You will deliver a responsive client experience, coordinate with internal teams and help customers get the best value from the service.

The role combines account management with commercial growth. You will respond to enquiries, conduct client conversations and demonstrations, prepare proposals and identify opportunities to grow existing accounts and reconnect with past customers. Maintaining accurate Salesforce records, pipeline activity and forecasts will be an important part of the role.

Working across sales, editorial, product and technology, operations and finance, you will bring customer feedback and market insights into the ongoing development of AAPR.

You will also help clients understand what makes a release clear, timely and relevant to journalists, while respecting AAP’s editorial independence.

The candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in account management, client success, business development or a similar client-facing role. Experience in media, public relations, communications, SaaS or subscription services will be highly regarded.

You will be commercially minded, comfortable with consultative sales conversations and capable of building trusted relationships with agencies, businesses, government bodies and not-for-profit organisations. An understanding of earned media and communications workflows, alongside an interest in news and how journalists and newsrooms operate, is essential.

Solid written and verbal communication skills are required, as are excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and time management. You will be confident using CRM systems, digital platforms and analytics, and curious about how tools can improve service and productivity.

The role suits a positive, proactive and practical problem-solver who takes ownership, follows through and works collaboratively. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities and learning as the service evolves.

How to apply

Expressions of interest are invited from candidates with a diverse range of backgrounds reflecting modern Australia. Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.

Please send a cover letter and resume to ••••@aap.com.au, outlining your relevant experience and interest in the AAPR Account Manager position.

Applications close on October 27 2026.
