Chef / Catering Operations Supervisor – Flexible Casual RoleFlying Woks has been operating for more than 25 years, providing live cooking and catering for events across Melbourne and Victoria.We are looking for a reliable, capable and adaptable Chef / Catering Operations Supervisor who wants to become a trusted long-term member of our team.This is not a traditional restaurant chef role.
Our workload follows our events calendar.
Some weeks can be very busy with substantial hours available, while other weeks can be quiet.
This position may particularly suit someone who has other work, their own business or commitments that allow them to enjoy a genuinely flexible working arrangement.What you'll doPrepare and cook food in our Ravenhall kitchenOrganise and prepare catering jobsPack and load equipment and foodDrive company vehicles to functionsLead staff and help coordinate functionsCook and serve at eventsTake responsibility for jobs from preparation through to completionHelp maintain an organised, clean and efficient kitchen and warehouseAs you learn our business,



take on greater operational responsibilityWho we're looking forCooking ability is important, but reliability, judgement and attitude are just as important to us.We want someone who can eventually be given a catering job and trusted to organise it, lead the team, solve problems and get the job done properly.You will need to be comfortable with variable hours, including weekends and evenings, because this is event catering rather than a fixed weekly roster.A role people stay inOver our 25+ years in business, three of our key team members each worked with us for more than 10 years.
Their hours increased substantially during busy periods and reduced during quieter periods.
We're looking for the next person who wants that kind of long-term relationship with our business.There is significant opportunity for the right person to grow into a senior operational role with Flying Woks.We are also open to discussing a genuine independent contractor arrangement with an established freelance chef or caterer where appropriate.
