Category 5 Labour Management

Wembley

Health and Safety Advisor Location: Wembley-based, with travel to Pilbara sites as required Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
About the role
Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will provide senior HSEQ advice, field leadership, assurance and operational support across Category 5 and Category 5 Rail activities.

Shutdown delivery will be a significant component of the role. We are looking for someone who can operate as a genuine Safety Advisor, not simply administer a safety system.

You will support the business through shutdown planning, readiness, execution and close-out while also providing operational HSEQ support across mining, rail, maintenance and project activities between shutdowns.

Benefits

- Competitive salary, project allowances, healthy lifestyle benefits and weekly pay.
- Exposure to complex shutdowns, rail infrastructure, fixed and mobile plant, labour-hire workforces, major projects and Tier 1 client systems
- Work closely with senior operational and HSEQ leaders, and have genuine opportunities to influence how work is planned and executed.
- Join a family owned, and operated business that prioritises its people and the local community.

Skills & experience

- Significant HSEQ experience within mining, rail, maintenance or heavy industry
- Demonstrated experience supporting major shutdowns or turnarounds
- Certificate IV, Diploma or tertiary qualification in WHS/OHS or similar
- Strong understanding of critical-risk management
- Practical knowledge of Permit to Work and isolation/LOTO systems
- Experience undertaking workplace risk assessments and field assurance

- Incident investigation experience
- Strong written communication and investigation-reporting capability
- Confidence working with supervisors, managers and client representatives
- Current Australian driver's licence
- Ability to travel and work shutdown rosters as required
- Comfortable working independently in complex operational environments and capable of quickly understanding how the work is actually being performed
- Practical, confident and credible, with a calm, field-focused approach to safety leadership
- Experience within BHP, Fortescue, Rio Tinto, Hancock Iron Ore or other Tier 1 mining operations will be highly regarded
- Rail, fixed-plant maintenance, track maintenance or heavy-mobile-equipment experience will also be advantageous
- Formal ICAM, Lead Auditor or critical-control verification capability would be highly desirable

Duties & responsibilities

- Supporting shutdown planning, mobilisation and readiness reviews
- Reviewing scopes, work packs, CRAWs, SWMS, JHAs and task risk assessments
- Verifying critical controls in the field
- Supporting Permit to Work, isolation and LOTO arrangements
- Managing risks associated with live plant and operational infrastructure
- Identifying SIMOPS and workgroup interface risks

- Supporting mobile plant and pedestrian interaction controls
- Monitoring fatigue, roster exposure and extended working hours
- Undertaking field inspections, layered audits and assurance activities
- Supporting supervisors with changing conditions and scope
- Leading or supporting incident and high-potential near-miss investigations
- Facilitating ICAM, causal analysis and lessons-learned reviews
- Supporting contractor and labour-hire risk management
- Participating in client HSEQ meetings, risk workshops and shutdown reviews
- Monitoring corrective actions and verifying their effectiveness
- Coaching supervisors and frontline leaders in practical risk management
