Why join AUSPAN?
AUSPAN is a WA family-owned Design & Construct (D&C;) building company with a proven track record of delivering high-quality buildings for industrial, commercial, mining and agricultural clients. We are known for our innovation, commitment to excellence and strong company values:
- CAN DO, DONE
- WIN/WIN
- WE, NOT ME
- FAIR & DECENT
- BETTER EVERY DAY
About the role
You’ll take ownership of drafting and detailing delivery for allocated Turnkey Commercial projects, from preliminary engineering drafting through to shop-detailing and fabrication documentation.
Working closely with our engineering, architectural, project and production teams, you’ll keep work moving, resolve coordination issues and guide the people delivering it. The role focuses on engineering drafting and detailing coordination, working with the project’s structural engineer on design requirements and approvals.
You’ll provide day-to-day leadership to direct reports and other team members allocated to Turnkey projects, helping build a capable team as this part of the business develops.
Your key responsibilities
- Lead delivery of accurate, coordinated models and drawings to agreed project programmes, quality requirements and drafting labour budgets.
- Plan and allocate team workloads based on project priorities, capability and capacity, identifying delivery risks and resource needs early.
- Coordinate engineering models and drawings for review, Building Permit and Issued for Construction documentation, through to shop detailing and fabrication issue.
- Review engineering, architectural and project information to identify clashes, missing information and constructability issues before they affect downstream work.
- Work directly with engineers, architects, project managers, fabrication and construction teams to clarify requirements, follow up outstanding information and resolve coordination issues.
- Coordinate checking and QA in line with AUSPAN processes, ensuring review comments and outstanding issues are addressed before issue.
- Provide practical technical guidance on structural steel modelling and detailing, fabrication efficiency and erection considerations.
- Lead and mentor team members through clear expectations, practical feedback and support with complex work.
- Reinforce agreed modelling, checking and drawing standards, recommend improvements from project experience, and contribute technical input to systems and automation initiatives.
About you
You’re technically capable, approachable and comfortable taking responsibility. You can get into the detail when needed, while delegating effectively and helping others develop their own judgement.
You’ll bring:
- Extensive experience in structural steel drafting and shop detailing, ideally across commercial or industrial projects.
- Strong hands-on capability in structural steel modelling and detailing software,
including reviewing models and drawings and resolving complex detailing issues. Tekla Structures experience is preferred; candidates with solid experience in other platforms and a willingness to transition to Tekla will also be considered.
- A sound understanding of the structural steel workflow, from preliminary design and engineering coordination through to shop detailing, fabrication and construction.
- Practical knowledge of structural steel systems, connection detailing, fabrication methods and installation requirements.
- Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, building codes and project requirements as they apply to drafting and detailing.
- Experience leading or mentoring drafters and detailers, with the ability to delegate effectively, provide clear feedback and maintain accountability.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, follow up outstanding information, communicate realistic delivery expectations and escalate risks early.
- A collaborative approach to resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to make practical decisions under pressure.
- A proactive approach to improving workflows, drawing quality and team capability.
What we can offer:
- A generous salary package and allowances
- Flexible/hybrid working arrangements
- Access to our Employee Assistance Program
- Positive workplace culture
- Access to the company wide profit-share bonus
The Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to pass a functional pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screen.
- Hold a current unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence.
- Provide a National Police Clearance obtained within the last 6 months.
- Be health, safety and environmentally conscious.
- Display a collaborative teamwork style with well-honed conflict resolution skills.
