About the role

Position Available: Mid November

The Industrial Painter is responsible for preparing, painting and refinishing equipment, plant, attachments and components as part of Bonetti Transport & Hire's maintenance and refurbishment operations. The role helps return equipment to a clean, presentable and serviceable condition, supporting equipment reliability, safe operation and BTH's professional presentation. The employee must follow approved work methods, coating specifications, manufacturer instructions and all WHS and environmental requirements.

Working hours and other Requirements

Ordinary working hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, subject to the applicable employment agreement and reasonable operational requirements. Any overtime, variation to hours or additional work must be approved in accordance with BTH procedures and the applicable employment arrangements. The employee must maintain required competencies, attend relevant training and comply with reasonable and lawful directions.

Key responsibilities

Equipment preparation and Surface treatment

- Inspect equipment and components before work begins; identify rust, corrosion, damaged coatings, dents or other surface defects and report issues requiring repair.

- Prepare surfaces using appropriate methods.

- Remove loose paint, rust, grease, dirt and contaminants to the standard required for the selected coating system.

- Protect decals, identification plates, hoses, electrical components, bearings, machined surfaces and other areas that must not be painted.

- Assist with disassembly and reassembly of components where required and only when authorised and competent to do so.

Painting, Coating and Refurbishment

- • Apply primers, industrial paints, protective coatings and finishing products using suitable brushes, rollers or spray equipment, in accordance with product instructions and job requirements.

- Mix, thin and handle coatings correctly, including checking product labels, technical data sheets, coverage requirements and specified drying or curing times.

- Refurbish equipment and attachments to achieve a consistent,



durable and professional finish that meets BTH quality expectations. Monitor coating coverage, colour, finish and adhesion

- Allow sufficient ventilation and curing time and ensure equipment is not returned to service until the coating is adequately cured and the work is approved.

Workshop Coordination and Quality Control

- Coordinate work priorities with the Maintenance Manager and maintenance team to support planned maintenance, turnaround times and equipment availability.

- Keep work areas, tools, spray equipment and materials clean, orderly and ready for use; clean equipment in accordance with product and environmental requirements.

- Complete job cards, work records, material usage records and inspection checklists as required.

- Check completed work before handover and promptly report additional repairs, parts, defects or delays that may affect the job.

- Use and store paints, thinners, abrasives and other consumables correctly; monitor stock levels and advise the Maintenance Manager when supplies are low.

General Maintenance Support

- Assist with general equipment refurbishment and workshop duties when painting tasks are not scheduled, provided the work is safe and within the employee’s training and competency.

- Handle equipment and components carefully to prevent damage during preparation, painting, movement and storage.

- Follow reasonable directions from the Maintenance Manager and work cooperatively with other maintenance personnel.

Skills and Experience

- Previous experience in industrial, automotive, heavy equipment or spray painting is preferred

- Experience preparing metal surfaces and applying primers, topcoats and protective coatings

- Ability to identify surface defects and produce a consistent, high-quality finish

- Knowledge of paint products,



coating systems, mixing ratios, drying times and safe handling practices

- Ability to read and follow product labels, technical data sheets, work instructions and job documentation

- Valuable attention to detail, time management and ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Forklift, EWP or other relevant licences/tickets are advantageous where applicable; only operate equipment when trained, authorised and competent

- Comply with BTH WHS policies, procedures, site rules and all applicable safety and environmental requirements

- Wear required PPE, which may include suitable respirators, eye protection, gloves, protective clothing, hearing protection and safety footwear

- Follow safe work procedures for spray painting, ventilation, hazardous chemicals, manual handling, working at heights and use of tools and equipment.

- Read and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical labels and coating instructions; ensure chemicals are labelled, stored and handled correctly.

- Check spray guns, hoses, compressors, extraction and other equipment before use; report defects and do not use unsafe equipment.

- Prevent overspray and environmental contamination. Dispose of paint waste, solvents, contaminated rags, filters and other hazardous waste through approved processes.

- Keep walkways and work areas clear, manage ignition sources and follow fire prevention requirements when working with flammable products.

- Immediately report hazards, incidents, near misses, spills, equipment faults and injuries to the appropriate supervisor.
