An exciting opportunity has become available for a Risk Advisor to join MIPS in Melbourne or Brisbane.

As a Risk Advisor, you’ll be a first point of contact for MIPS members seeking guidance and support when issues arise during their healthcare practice. You’ll provide timely, practical and empathetic general risk advice, helping members navigate what can often be complex or stressful situations.

Working within our Claims Experience team, you’ll support members across a broad range of clinical, regulatory and professional matters, including clinical incidents, complaints, adverse events, informed consent, documentation, mandatory reporting and interactions with regulators.

You’ll use your judgement to identify when matters require escalation and work closely with our Senior Risk Advisers and Claims Advisory Specialists to ensure members receive the right support at the right time.

What You'll Be Doing

- Respond to member enquiries via telephone and online notifications, providing timely, qualified and empathetic support.
- Provide general risk advice across a range of healthcare practice matters, including clinical incidents, complaints, adverse events, documentation, informed consent, privacy, mandatory reporting and regulatory interactions.
- Help members understand the relevant risk, regulatory and professional standards considerations so they can make informed decisions.
- Recognise complex or higher-risk matters that require legal advice, claims support or specialist expertise and escalate these through the appropriate pathways.
- Identify matters requiring urgent attention, including serious adverse events, coronial matters and mandatory notifications.
- Clearly communicate the scope of the advice being provided and ensure members understand when further specialist support is required.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of member interactions, advice and outcomes within our case management system.
- Keep your knowledge current across health law, professional regulation, clinical governance and regulatory requirements.
- Identify emerging risk themes and contribute insights that support member education and proactive risk management.

- Contribute to the development of team resources, guidance materials, quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

You’re a healthcare, legal, medico-legal or risk professional who can combine technical knowledge with empathy and sound judgement. You’re comfortable dealing with complex and sometimes sensitive situations and can translate regulatory, legal or clinical risk concepts into transparent and practical guidance.

You’ll bring:

- A tertiary qualification in Law, Health Law, Nursing, Medicine or a related health or legal discipline.
- Experience within health law, medico-legal services, clinical risk, medical indemnity, healthcare regulation, compliance or a related setting.
- Sound knowledge of health law principles, including negligence, informed consent, confidentiality and privacy, mandatory reporting, coronial processes and professional regulation.
- An understanding of the regulatory frameworks governing healthcare practitioners.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to provide calm, clear and empathetic guidance, particularly when members may be experiencing stressful circumstances.
- The ability to distil complex legal, regulatory and clinical concepts into practical information for members.
- Sound judgement and the ability to recognise when a matter falls outside your scope and requires escalation.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain clear and accurate documentation.
- A collaborative approach, high level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality.
- Resilience and the ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with sensitive or distressing matters.

Experience in a telephone-based advisory, member services or contact centre environment will be highly regarded.

Previous experience as a registered health practitioner or postgraduate qualifications in Health Law, Risk Management or a related field would also be advantageous.
