About the role
Kids Giving Back is a not-for-profit that gets kids and teens out of the classroom and into the kitchen. We cook real meals for people in need and teach kids they can make a genuine difference. You'll lead the cooking with our facilitators running the program alongside you, so you're never managing the room on your own.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the cooking with groups of up to 60 students aged 5-18, in sessions of around 3 hours
- Demonstrate food safety and knife safety, touch on nutrition, and keep everyone safe
- Work alongside a Kids Giving Back facilitator who manages the group, the learning and the reflection
- Facilitate food-safe handover of meals to our charity partners
- You keep the kitchen to standard, including dishes
- Explain things simply and teach without lecturing
- Stay calm and adapt when a session doesn't go to plan
About you
- Commercial kitchen experience, or experience teaching cooking to groups
- Food Safety Supervisor certificate, or willingness to obtain one
- A current NSW Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one before starting
- Full Australian working rights
- Available on Mondays and Tuesdays
- Transparent, confident spoken English. You'll be talking with kids and teens all day
- Know your way around a commercial kitchen and take food safety seriously
- Enjoy young people, and find their energy motivating
- Can explain things simply and teach without lecturing
- Stay calm and adapt when a session doesn't go to plan
About us
Kids Giving Back is a not-for-profit that gets kids and teens out of the classroom and into the kitchen. We cook real meals for people in need, and teach kids they can make a genuine difference. It's hands-on, meaningful, and a lot of fun. Most programs run at our hub in Woolloomooloo, with some school holiday programs at Northern Beaches and Parramatta.
