Drive Capability Analysis and Decision-Making Through Modelling and Simulation Excellence

As the Modelling and Simulation Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of a major capability. Working within a client-facing environment and collaborating with stakeholders, capability sponsors, delivery agencies, industry partners, OEMs, and international stakeholders, you will contribute to the analysis, assessment, and validation of capability solutions through modelling and simulation activities.

The position is responsible for conducting operational analysis, performance assessments, systems modelling, simulation development, and capability trade studies that inform capability planning and acquisition decision-making. You will work closely with stakeholders to evaluate operational effectiveness, validate capability requirements, assess system performance, and support the development of evidence-based recommendations.

The role also provides specialist support through threat analysis, engagement simulations, capability assessments, risk evaluations, and technical studies that help shape future capability outcomes and support key project approval milestones. This role requires a highly analytical and technically proficient professional with strong stakeholder engagement skills, experience in modelling and simulation environments, and the ability to translate complex technical data into meaningful insights that support capability development.

Day to Day Tasks include:

- Identify Develop and maintain modelling and simulation requirements to support capability assessment and acquisition activities.
- Collect, analyse, and interpret technical, operational, and simulation data from industry, OEM, and international stakeholders.
- Support the development and validation of capability requirements and Functional Performance Specifications (FPS) through modelling and simulation activities.
- Conduct threat, engagement, and operational simulations to assess capability effectiveness under representative operational conditions.
- Assess system and subsystem performance, including command and control, communications, sensors, and mission systems through modelling and simulation.

- Develop operational scenarios and simulation environments that reflect operational requirements and future capability concepts.
- Perform operational effectiveness assessments across varying threat environments, force structures, readiness levels, and operational scenarios.
- Lead modelling and simulation trade studies to evaluate alternative capability solutions, architectures, and acquisition approaches.
- Conduct comparative capability assessments considering performance, operational effectiveness, integration requirements, and future growth potential.
- Identify capability risks, opportunities, and operational limitations and provide evidence-based recommendations to support capability planning and decision-making.
- Support integration and system interaction assessments through simulation-based analysis and evaluation activities.
- Present modelling outcomes, assumptions, findings, and recommendations to stakeholder

Essential Requirements:

- Active NV2 Security Clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in Modelling and Simulation, Operational Analysis, Capability Assessment, Systems Engineering, or capability development environments.
- Experience developing, executing, and analysing modelling and simulation activities to support operational or technical decision-making.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess capability performance, risks, operational effectiveness, and solution suitability.
- Experience conducting trade studies, comparative analysis, and evidence-based assessments to support project or acquisition decisions.
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles, requirements development, verification, validation, and capability assessment methodologies.
- Experience interpreting technical and operational data and translating findings into explicit recommendations and decision-support products.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to liaise effectively across industry, and multidisciplinary project teams.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, briefings, presentations, and technical documentation.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within project schedules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools.

Desirable Requirements:

- Expertise in operational analysis, modelling, simulation, and wargaming.
- Knowledge of complex systems engineering principles.
- Proficiency in analytical tools, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement.

SFIA Skills Sought:

The elicitation, analysis, specification and validation of requirements and constraints to a level that enables effective development and operations of new or changed software, systems, processes, products and services. The management of requirements throughout the whole of the delivery and operational life cycle of the software, system, processes, products or services. The negotiation of trade-offs that are both acceptable to key stakeholders and within budgetary, technical, regulatory, and other constraints.

The adoption and adaptation of requirements management lifecycle models based on the context of the work and selecting appropriately from plan-driven/predictive approaches or more adaptive (iterative and agile) approaches.

REQM Level 5:

Plans and drives scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities for large, complex initiatives. Selects, adopts and adapts appropriate requirements definition and management methods, tools and techniques selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches. Obtains input from, and formal agreement to, requirements from a diverse range of stakeholders.

Negotiates with stakeholders to manage competing priorities and conflicts. Establishes requirements baselines. Ensures changes to requirements are investigated and managed. Contributes to the development of organisational methods and standards.
