- $83,000 per annum (including superannuation) plus access to salary sacrifice
- Full time, fixed term until 30 June 2028
- Based in Tennant Creek
Tourism Central Australia is looking for an Assistant Manager / Tour Guide to join the team at the Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre, home of the Tennant Creek Visitor Information Centre.
About the role
This is a hands-on job with plenty of variety. You will take visitors underground on daily mine tours, help them plan their time in the Barkly, and support the Manager in running the centre day to day. You will also be the face of the region to the people who pass through, and a point of contact for the local tourism businesses we work with.
Tourism is a key economic driver for the Barkly, and Battery Hill is at the centre of it. The Northern Territory Government has committed $2 million to redevelop the site (with most works already completed), and the centre was recently named best venue in the Barkly at the Chamber of Commerce awards. It is a good time to join a small, dedicated team and have a real hand in what this much-loved attraction becomes.
What you will do
- Lead daily underground mine tours
- Support the day-to-day operation of the centre and the Visitor Information Centre
- Give visitors friendly,
accurate advice on what to see and do in the Barkly and Central Australia
- Build strong working relationships with member businesses and local stakeholders
- Represent the Barkly and Central Australia as an ambassador for the region
What we are looking for
- Experience in tourism, ideally at an attraction or visitor information centre, or in a frontline role such as tour guiding
- A confident presenter who enjoys talking with people and takes pride in excellent customer service
- Someone who can work with member businesses to achieve results that benefit both sides
- Knowledge of the Barkly and Central Australian tourism product, or the willingness to learn it quickly
- A adaptable team player who stays calm when it gets busy and works well with a diverse team
- Professional presentation and pride in appearance
- A real interest in helping the Barkly region grow
Knowledge of the Barkly and Central Australian business community is preferred but not essential.
How to apply
Send your current CV, including referees, and a cover letter of no more than two pages, addressed to Danial Rochford, Chief Executive Officer, Tourism Central Australia, to ***@discoverca.com.au.
