About the role

Horse Trainer – ANZSCO #361112:

Trainer will prepares horses for racing, pre training or Off The Track competitions & shows. Join a successful, hands-on team in a varied role with genuine responsibility.

Key responsibilities

- Teaching animals to obey verbal and non-verbal commands and addressing behavioural problems

- Training animals to accept riders

- Training animals and conditioning horses to perform in competitions

- Reporting to trainers/owners on horses' progress and performance

- Bathing, cutting, combing, blow-drying and styling coats

- Inspecting, preparing, cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining clean animal enclosures

- Transporting food, filling water troughs and feeding animals

- Maintaining health records, treating minor injuries and reporting serious conditions to veterinarians

- Answering owner questions

About you

- Minimum 2-3 years full-time professional experience in a similar role





- Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing

- Experience in track work riding , including riding timed gallops

- Knowledge of secure operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment

- AQF Certificate III (preferred) and have at least two years of on-the-job experience

- AQF Certificate IV (preferred)

- RWWA licenced stable foreperson / assistant trainer (essential)
