Make a meaningful difference through specialist behaviour support
At TheirCare, we’re committed to enriching communities and supporting families throughout the year. Through our Positive Pathways team, we provide support that helps children, young people and families participate safely, confidently and meaningfully in their everyday environments.
We’re looking for an experienced Behaviour Support Practice Lead to join our team and provide specialist practice leadership across complex behaviour support matters.
This is a senior, hands-on role that combines direct behaviour support practice with clinical supervision and practice leadership. You’ll work directly with children, young people and families while supporting Behaviour Support Practitioners and service teams to strengthen practice, improve outcomes and deliver high-quality, person-centred support.
About The Role
Reporting to the Head of NDIS Services, you will maintain direct involvement in complex participant matters while providing practice-based supervision, coaching and clinical oversight to Behaviour Support Practitioners.
You will bring your expertise in positive behaviour support, safeguarding and rights-based practice to complex assessments, case formulation and intervention planning, while ensuring practitioner guidance is grounded in direct observation and a strong understanding of participant needs.
You will also fulfil the responsibilities of the Authorised Program Officer (APO) for NDIS service provision, including oversight of Behaviour Support Plans, restrictive practice requirements and relevant reporting obligations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Maintain direct involvement in complex participant cases, including observation, assessment and engagement within everyday service environments.
- Undertake behavioural, psychosocial and risk assessments to understand participant needs, strengths, communication preferences, environmental factors and safeguarding concerns.
- Lead complex case management and case formulation, bringing together information from participants, families, practitioners and service teams.
- Develop, review and guide individualised positive behaviour support strategies and implementation approaches.
- Monitor participant progress and the effectiveness of interventions through direct observation, incident review and ongoing consultation.
- Provide specialist clinical consultation and escalation for complex behavioural presentations, safeguarding concerns and restrictive practice considerations.
- Provide practice-based supervision to Behaviour Support Practitioners, including caseload, assessment, intervention, risk and documentation review.
- Observe practitioners and staff delivering supports and provide real-time coaching, modelling and professional direction.
- Facilitate reflective practice and targeted coaching to build practitioner capability and confidence.
- Collaborate with families, carers, allied health professionals, service leaders and other stakeholders to coordinate individualised responses.
- Analyse incidents and practice trends to identify emerging risks and opportunities for service improvement, training and resource development.
- Fulfil APO responsibilities, including oversight of Behaviour Support Plans, restrictive practice reporting and relevant NDIS Commission requirements.
What You’ll Bring We’re looking for someone who combines strong clinical expertise with the ability to develop and guide others. You’ll Have
- A relevant bachelor degree or higher qualification in Social Work or a closely related allied health or behaviour support discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working as a Social Worker, Behaviour Analyst, Behaviour Support Practitioner or comparable allied health practitioner.
- Experience working with children, young people,
families and/or people with disability.
- Strong capability in complex case management, behavioural and psychosocial assessment, risk assessment and intervention planning.
- Strong working knowledge of positive behaviour support, child safety, safeguarding, person-centred and rights-based practice and NDIS Practice Standards.
- Experience providing skilled or practice-based supervision and coaching practitioners through complex matters.
- Solid knowledge of restrictive practice requirements and a commitment to least-restrictive practice.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Sound professional judgement and the ability to respond to complex or emerging safeguarding and practice issues.
- The ability to translate clinical observations and assessment findings into practical recommendations and practitioner guidance.
Mandatory Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification and professional experience.
- Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Valid Working with Children Check.
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate.
- Demonstrated behaviour support experience within disability, child and family, education or allied health settings.
- Formal Positive Behaviour Support training and/or experience as an Authorised Program Officer is highly regarded.
