CAD Drafter / Estimator
Hoardings & Temporary Works | Pathway to Project Management
Quick Up Hoardings | Pyrmont, Sydney NSW | Full-time
ABOUT US:
Quick Up Hoardings is a Sydney-based specialist in certified A-Class and B-Class hoardings, overhead protective structures, laneway hoardings and bespoke structural steel solutions. We work with leading builders, developers and contractors across NSW, handling everything from site measurement and design through to engineering, fabrication and installation.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for a CAD Drafter / Estimator who wants more than a desk job. We need someone with real construction know-how who takes ownership of their work, pays close attention to detail and keeps jobs moving without needing constant direction.
THE ROLE:
You'll take projects from enquiry through to installation: attending site, measuring up, producing drawings, preparing estimates and quotes, and working directly with builders, project managers, engineers and site supervisors. You'll organise your own workload, follow up outstanding items and make sure jobs keep moving.
For the right person, there is a genuine opportunity to grow into a Project Management / Operations role as the business grows.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
- Attending site to take accurate measurements and identify practical installation issues
- Understanding and explaining to clients and crews how the work will be installed
- Leading and coordinating installations when required, working alongside the crew and being prepared to assist hands-on where appropriately trained and competent
- Preparing AutoCAD 2D drawings and site layouts for A-Class and B-Class hoardings and temporary structures
- Preparing workshop drawings showing what needs to be made,
including measurements, materials and cutting lengths where required
- Reading and interpreting architectural, structural, civil and survey drawings
- Preparing material and labour take-offs
- Estimating labour, steel, timber, transport, crane/HIAB, EWP, engineering, installation and dismantle
- Obtaining prices from suppliers and subcontractors when needed
- Preparing quotations and detailed scopes of work
- Preparing drawings to meet SafeWork NSW Codes of Practice, Australian Standards and council requirements, including clearances, pedestrian protection, access and structural arrangements
- Supporting council submissions and reviewing the specific requirements of different NSW councils, including City of Sydney Type-A and Type-B hoarding requirements
- Managing multiple projects, following up outstanding items and keeping jobs moving from enquiry to installation
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
Essential
- Practical, hands-on site experience: you can take accurate measurements, identify installation issues, and understand and explain how the work will be installed
- Hands-on leadership and practical site capability: able to confidently run or coordinate an installation, understand the work being carried out, and lead by example when required
- Strong AutoCAD 2D drafting skills
- Ability to use SolidWorks or similar 3D software (you don't need to be an expert in 3D modelling)
- Ability to prepare workshop drawings for fabrication, including measurements, materials and cutting lengths
- Estimating experience, including obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Solid understanding of structural steel, beams, posts, baseplates, bracing, timber framing, plywood, gates and connections
- Strong initiative and ownership: able to organise your workload, follow up outstanding items and keep jobs moving without constant direction
- Strong attention to detail
- Confidence dealing directly with builders, project managers, engineers and site supervisors
- Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly get across, the SafeWork NSW Overhead Protective Structures Code of Practice (commenced 12 December 2025), relevant Australian Standards and council requirements
- Valuable Excel skills
- Current driver licence
Preferred
- Ideally 5 years of relevant experience in structural steel, scaffolding, temporary works, hoardings, façade, architectural metalwork or similar construction
- NSW construction experience
Please note: This role is not suited to someone who has only worked behind a desk producing drawings. We need someone who is comfortable on site and understands how the job actually gets built.
WHAT WE OFFER
- An opportunity to grow into a Project Management / Operations role as the business grows
- Ownership of projects from start to finish
- Varied work across commercial, residential and mixed-use developments in Sydney and NSW
- A growing business where initiative is noticed and rewarded
- [Salary/vehicle / other benefits TBD]
