Who is Racing Queensland?
Racing Queensland is the statutory body responsible for leading and supporting Queensland’s Thoroughbred, Greyhound, and Harness racing industries.
With participants and stakeholders located throughout metropolitan, regional and rural Queensland, the racing industry makes a significant contribution to the State's economy and local communities. Racing Queensland works to ensure the long-term sustainability and success of the industry while delivering exceptional racing and event experiences.
Our mission is straightforward: to champion great racing and events that connect Queensland communities.
The role:
RQ is now seeking an exceptional Chief People Officer to lead the organisation's people, culture and workforce agenda at an important time in the evolution of Queensland racing.
This is an opportunity to operate at the highest level of the organisation, partnering with the CEO, Board and Executive Leadership Team to shape the culture, capability, leadership and workforce required to deliver RQ's strategic ambitions.
For an experienced People & Culture executive, this is an opportunity to make a genuine enterprise-wide impact — both within RQ and across the broader Queensland racing industry.
RQ's strategic direction places a clear focus on building a culture of high performance and progressing workforce transformation to support the future of the industry.
Key accountabilities:
- Lead the people and organisational integration of RQ and QRIC, including workforce transition planning, organisational alignment, change delivery and cultural integration to support the successful transition to one future-state organisation.
- Lead the delivery of RQ’s P&P; Strategy to support organisational capability, culture, enterprise transformation and strategic objectives.
- Lead organisational design and development initiatives across leadership capability, talent management, succession planning,
employee engagement and performance management to strengthen organisational capability and support long-term business outcomes.
- Oversee the development, review and implementation of people guidelines, frameworks and practices to ensure compliance, consistency, operational effectiveness and continuous improvement.
- Lead the organisation’s employee and industrial relations function, providing expert oversight of complex and sensitive matters including case management, workforce change and transition, dispute resolution, and enterprise risk mitigation, while ensuring legally compliant, commercially sound and values-aligned outcomes.
What does success look like?
Success in this role will mean People & Performance is recognised as a strategic driver of RQ's performance, rather than simply a support function.
You will:
- Build solid trust and credibility with the CEO, Board, Executive Leadership Team and employees.
- Translate RQ's strategy into a clear and compelling people agenda.
- Strengthen leadership capability and organisational performance.
- Build an employee experience that attracts, develops and retains great people.
- Lead meaningful cultural and organisational change.
- Develop a capable, contemporary and high-performing People & Culture function.
- Help RQ prepare its workforce for the future of racing.
RQ already has a strong platform to build from, including a two-year People Strategy approved in 2025, a focus on employee engagement, leadership development, learning and development, wellbeing and diversity.
