About the role

We are looking for a full-time Cook to join our kitchen team, working 38 hours per week on a rotating roster that includes nights, weekends and public holidays.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare, season and cook food for the restaurant, café and functions
- Check the quality of stock and produce as it comes in
- Set and monitor oven, grill and cooking equipment temperatures
- Portion and plate meals, and add sauces and garnishes to our presentation standards
- Prepare meals for customers with special dietary requirements
- Store food correctly in temperature-controlled facilities
- Follow all food safety and hygiene procedures, and keep work areas clean
- Help with menu planning, specials and estimating food orders
- Support the Head Chef and work closely with front-of-house staff

About you

- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery including at least 2 years of on-the-job training, or Certificate IV




- At least one year of full time experience (or equivalent part-time) cooking in a commercial kitchen
- Sound food safety and hygiene knowledge
- Ability to work at pace during busy service and as part of a team
- Availability for nights, weekends and public holidays
- Reliable, with a positive attitude
- Own transport or the ability to get to Bentley Park for rostered shifts

Souths is a well-known community club located on the south side of Cairns at Bentley Park (9 km from Cairns City). Our club caters to the needs of locals, visitors, members and guests, and provides a fantastic entertainment venue for the Cairns community. Our venue is open seven days and includes Sirens Restaurant, a café, a sports bar, a gaming lounge, function rooms and a kids' club house, with the South Cairns Cutters AFL oval right outside.
