Vegetable Farmhand/Supervisor - Spring Creek

Story Fresh is looking for an experienced Vegetable Farmer to join their salad vegetable production team at Spring Creek, near Clifton. This is a permanent, operational position, with the option of renting a modern 4 bedroom brick veneer home on site. The house is on the local school bus run to Clifton (both primary and secondary schools).

The role involves daily planning, organising, controlling, coordinating and performing farming operations for crop production of leafy salad vegetables (lettuce and babyleaf crops) over the summer season (from mid August to May).

Routine tasks include land preparation, crop irrigation and fertigation, crop sprays, crop residue management and overall farm maintenance and housekeeping.

The successful applicant will be responsible for crop production, both from a supervisory and operational perspective.

They will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with WH&S; and quality system requirements on farm.

Demonstrated experience is required for this position and includes:

being able to develop production plans that meet land and crop rotation requirements in consultation with management;

ensuring crops are well looked after and meet yield and quality parameters;

overseeing activities and ensuring farms are maintained in excellent condition;

developing daily work plans and supervising farm-based staff;

meeting production requirements during the season (mid August to end of May);

having strong setup and operational skills with tractors (across a range of HP and size),



and the use of powered implements and spray application equipment;

operating crop irrigation systems, in particular laterals and trickle systems;

having sound computer, communication and documentation skills; and

being able to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.

Additional skills that would be advantage include:

truck and/or forklift license

cattle handling experience (small herd kept on farm)

This position requires a person who:

Is a reliable individual who wants to live and work on a farm;

Understands the impact of weather on farm operations;

Brings strong attention to detail with a focus on getting it right the first time;

Is self-motivated and comfortable with flexible hours of work, in line with a key farm role;

Willingness to undertake regular weekend work with the team during the production season;

Has good physical fitness.
