Saunders Havill is a leading and dynamic multi-disciplinary consulting firm seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist/Ecologist to join the team at Bowen Hills in a full-time role.

About the Position The position of Environmental Scientist provides support to the Environmental Management department through desktop legislation searches, report writing and general assistance to senior staff and management. The role includes periodical field work as part of broader ecological surveys and environmental monitoring. Your responsibilities in this role will be:

- Assist senior staff with the management and coordination of projects through liaison with clients

- Assist with the management of inputs from field and graduate level staff

- Understanding of environmental based legislation

- Assessing and guiding project outcomes based on field observation and associated legislative requirements

- Identification of appropriate environmental management measures required to support project approvals

- Preparation of technical environmental reports and plans

- Contribute and discuss with rest of team for proactive resolution of environmental constraints.

- Contribute towards systems improvement/flow of communication

- Track project / time records using Saunders Havill’s project management computer software

- Take reasonable care for own health and safety and ensure that acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others

- Protect and care for the setting and act in a manner that does not place the environment at risk

As the successful candidate, you will have:





- strong communication skills and experience speaking effectively before large groups of people.

- a relevant tertiary level qualification.

- a minimum 18 months closely aligned and relevant industry experience.

- Broad and specific understanding of relevant environmental legislation, policies and guidelines

- Basic training in species identification and assessment methodologies

- Recent (within the past 6 months) experience designing tailored field assessments, relevant to South-East Queensland EPBC matters and species

- Experience leading field teams in completing complex assessments relevant to federal offsets in South-East Queensland

- Current experience in complex EPBC calculators

- Experience compiling detailed assessments and reporting for EPBC referrals

- Current experience compiling ecological reports for State and Local Government assessment in South-East Queensland
