About the opportunity A leading Australian law firm is looking for a People & Culture Coordinator to join its Sydney shared services team. This is a genuine entry point into HR for someone who wants hands-on exposure to the full employee lifecycle inside a well-regarded professional services environment, rather than a narrow admin role bolted onto a bigger team.

You will report to the Senior Manager, Business Partnering and work alongside experienced P&C; professionals who partner directly with the business. The role sits at the coordination end of HR, but the scope is broad: recruitment, onboarding, learning and development liaison, offboarding, and firm-wide graduate and clerkship programme support. It suits someone who wants to learn how HR actually runs day to day, not just observe it from the sidelines.

About the company

Our client is a modern, well-established Australian law firm with a strong national reputation and a client base spanning Australian and international businesses, organisations and government. The firm has built its culture around operational excellence, employee experience, and genuine flexibility, and it backs that up with sustained recognition for diversity and inclusion practice. It is a firm where the P&C; function is treated as a real partner to the business, not an afterthought.

Day in the life

This role touches nearly every part of the employee journey. On any given week you might be:

- Setting up new roles on the firm's recruitment platform and preparing employment contracts
- Coordinating police checks, reference checks and other pre-employment screening
- Managing new starter data entry into the payroll and HR systems (Workday experience is a plus, not a requirement)
- Scheduling and tracking end-of-probation meetings across multiple teams
- Liaising with the Learning & Development team on induction and training schedules

- Running weekly HR induction sessions and meeting current starters face to face
- Coordinating offboarding, including exit interviews, departure surveys and checklist sign-off
- Supporting the administrative side of the Graduate and Summer Clerk recruitment and induction programme
- Fielding day-to-day queries from staff and external stakeholders on P&C; matters
- Processing HR-related invoices and picking up ad hoc project work as it comes up
- Assisting with broader HR projects and system implementations as the team scales its tech stack

What you will bring

- Strong interest in a career in HR, whether that is through study, a completed qualification, or simply a genuine pull towards people-focused work
- Comfort with administrative detail and a track record of staying organised across competing priorities
- Clear, confident written and verbal communication, since this role talks to staff at every level of the firm
- A proactive, professional approach and a willingness to own tasks end to end
- A team-first mindset; this is a collaborative shared services function, not a solo operation

Nice to have

- Studies completed or in progress in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline
- Exposure to Workday or another HRIS platform
- Prior exposure to a skilled services or legal environment

What is on offer

- Hybrid working, with part of the week in a Sydney CBD office and support to set up a proper home office
- Up to 20 weeks paid parental leave

- Discounted gym memberships and health insurance
- Salary continuance insurance and an Employee Assistance Programme
- Dedicated parents and carers wellbeing support
- Structured learning and development pathways, plus study support
- Paid volunteering and involvement in the firm's pro bono and grants programmes
- Salary: to be confirmed, competitive and aligned to experience
