About the Role

We are a growing, quality-focused manufacturing business based in Geelong, creating premium Australian-made products. We are looking for a practical, self-motivated Junior Manufacturing & Operations Engineer to help lead our day-to-day production, streamline workflows, and ensure high assembly standards on the workshop floor.

This is a dynamic, hands-on role that bridges engineering design with physical operations. You won't just be sitting behind a desk running CAD software—you will spend significant time on the floor coordinating production, managing inventory and ERP systems, solving assembly bottlenecks, and helping us continuously improve how we build.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operations & Production Coordination

- Oversee daily workshop operations and production schedules to ensure orders are completed on time.

- Manage stock control, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and inventory workflows within our ERP/inventory management system.

- Perform Quality Assurance (QA) checks on incoming materials, sub-assemblies, and finished products before dispatch.

- Assist with physical assembly, batch staging, and floor organisation when needed during peak periods.

2. Process Improvement & Engineering

- Identify shop-floor bottlenecks and design practical jigs, assembly aids, or template layouts to boost efficiency.

- Optimise timber, sheet metal, or composite material usage and reduce scrap/waste.

- Maintain and update 2D drafting files (e.g., QCAD, Inkscape, or AutoCAD) and vector files for CNC or cutting equipment.

- Refine assembly documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and quality checklists.

3. Team & Supplier Liaison

- Work closely with the business founders to translate production strategy into weekly floor goals.

- Communicate with local suppliers and logistics providers for raw material deliveries and component sourcing.

About You

- Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, or a related field.

- Practical Aptitude: Comfortable using power tools, measuring equipment, and working directly on a workshop floor. Prior hands-on experience (e.g., trades, TAFE pathways, Formula SAE, woodworking, or automotive projects) is highly regarded.

- Technical Literacy: Experience with 2D/3D drafting software (AutoCAD, QCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) and comfort working with vector formats (SVG, DXF).

- Systems Mindset: Strong attention to detail with inventory tracking, spreadsheets, and operations software.

- Problem Solver: Excellent spatial reasoning, common-sense problem solving, and a clear communication style.

- Location: Based in or within reasonable commuting distance of Geelong, VIC.

What We Offer

- Direct Impact: Your ideas and process improvements will be implemented immediately, not buried in corporate red tape.

- Mentorship & Variety: Broad exposure across the entire manufacturing lifecycle—from raw timber/materials to finished goods export.

- Excellent Culture: A supportive, agile team environment in Geelong with competitive pay and career growth potential as the business expands.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume along with a brief cover letter telling us about a hands-on project (personal, academic, or professional) you’ve built, fixed, or improved.
