Key Duties: Preparing landscape plans and drawings, selecting suitable construction materials and plants, and scheduling landscaping works to meet client requirements. Setting out and installing hardscape and softscape elements, including garden beds, pathways, patios, decking and landscaped outdoor areas. Constructing paved areas, driveways and pathways using brick, natural stone and concrete, including decorative and exposed aggregate finishes.

Constructing timber, concrete sleeper, stone and brick retaining walls to support soil levels and enhance landscaped areas and installing drainage to channelise water. Preparing garden beds and growing sites by clearing, excavating and levelling soil, adding topsoil and improving drainage. Selecting and planting trees, shrubs, hedges, flowers and other plants suitable for Melbourne’s climate and site conditions.

Preparing and levelling lawn areas and installing artificial grass. Installing garden edging using pavers, timber and corten steel to define planting beds, lawns and pathways. Installing landscape drainage solutions to manage surface water and protect garden beds, paved areas and retaining walls.

Inspecting completed landscape works and repairing or maintaining fencing, retaining walls and other installed structures.

Requirements and Skills Certificate III in Landscape Construction,



Horticulture or a related field. At least one year of relevant work experience in landscape gardening or a related field. Ability to interpret landscape plans, select suitable materials and plants, set out sites and organise landscape construction.

Practical skills in paving, retaining walls, fencing, decking, soil preparation, planting, drainage and artificial grass installation. Ability to operate landscaping tools and machinery safely, follow workplace safety procedures, and work independently or as part of a team.
