About Us

IAG Defence & National Security (DNS) is part of IAG, a specialist advisory firm supporting complex infrastructure, Defence and national security programs across Australia. Our DNS team works closely with Commonwealth agencies and industry partners to deliver specialist expertise into nationally significant programs. Our success depends on our ability to identify, engage and mobilise highly specialised talent quickly and effectively.

IAG is recognised as a Veteran Friendly Employer under the Veteran Employment Program.

The Role

We're looking for experienced Senior Systems Engineers to join a national security agency in Canberra. There are 3 positions available. You'll combine hands-on infrastructure and systems design work with ownership of testing, availability and installation projects, guiding and mentoring less experienced staff as you go.

You'll coordinate testing activities, report results so system developers understand them, and design large or complex systems while balancing functional and non-functional requirements. Given the sensitive nature of the environment, not all work areas can accommodate remote work, so your working arrangement will depend on the team you're assigned to. Successful candidates will also need to complete an Organisation Suitability Assessment (OSA) before commencing, and the engaging vendor must hold current Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) membership.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage allocated resources, set work area priorities and workflows, evaluate outcomes, and guide and mentor less experienced staff
- Coordinate the execution of testing activities and ensure the integrity of test results, reporting them clearly to system developers

- Identify process improvements that raise testing standards and best practice, and ensure compliance
- Apply expertise in testing tools, methodologies and processes, and analyse very complex software testing issues to recommend courses of action
- Advise on the planning, design and improvement of service and component availability, and investigate breaches of availability targets
- Develop disaster recovery plans with supporting processes, and manage the testing of those plans
- Design large or complex systems, including impact analysis of major design options and trade-offs
- Implement infrastructure changes and maintenance routines, and automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure
- Lead installation and decommissioning projects, including quality plans and change control

Required

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, software engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field
- Experience in availability management, including investigating availability breaches and developing and testing disaster recovery plans
- Experience in IT infrastructure, including implementing infrastructure changes and automating provisioning, testing and deployment
- Experience designing large or complex systems, including impact analysis of major design options and trade-offs
- Experience leading systems installation and decommissioning projects
- Proficiency in installing,

configuring and troubleshooting UNIX-based environments
- Strong knowledge of programming languages
- Experience monitoring systems for optimal performance, with familiarity with automation software and a basic understanding of cloud platforms
- Ability to complete the Organisation Suitability Assessment (OSA) before commencement

Engagement Details

- Location: Canberra, ACT
- Onsite. Work from home is not always available, depending on the assigned team
- 3 positions available
- Extension options available
