Livestock & Farm All-Rounder
BOS Grazing | Ironpot, South Burnett QLD
Full-time | Single-person accommodation provided
Are you a genuine jack of all trades, with the skills to back it up?
You can ride a horse, handle cattle, weld, fix a fence and operate machinery. You're just as comfortable riding pens and treating cattle as you are servicing a tractor or sorting out a problem in the feedlot.
You're observant, practical and enjoy getting things done. If something isn't right, whether it's an animal, a water trough or a piece of machinery, you'll notice it and do something about it.
And you'd probably go mad doing the same job every day.
We're looking for someone who enjoys the variety of working across an entire operation, rather than being stuck doing one thing.
Who We Are
We're BOS Grazing, a family-run regenerative beef production and grain-finishing operation between Kingaroy and Dalby.
Across 7,500 acres, we combine regenerative grazing, cattle backgrounding, grain finishing, cropping and irrigation. We're passionate about positive stockmanship, animal welfare, healthy country and finding better ways to do things.
We operate on the premise of high care, high trust and high performance. We work hard, but we have a hell of a lot of fun doing it.
About the Role
This is a genuine all-rounder's position, working across the whole operation rather than being pigeonholed into one specialty.
One day might involve riding pens, treating cattle and running an induction. The next could be mustering, feeding cattle, operating machinery, welding or fixing something that's broken.
You'll see how the whole business fits together, from regenerative grazing in the paddock to refining the one-percenters of grain feeding in the pen. There's plenty of opportunity to expand your knowledge, contribute ideas and get involved in how things are done.
Key Responsibilities
- Riding pens,
identifying and treating sick cattle, and monitoring animal health
- Inductions, drafting, processing and exits using low-stress stock handling
- Mustering and working with our backgrounding and regenerative grazing cattle
- Operating tractors, loaders, skid steers and feeding equipment
- Welding, fencing, machinery maintenance and general repairs
- Commodity handling and daily feedlot operations
- Using software to record livestock movements, treatments and operational activities
You Bring
We're looking for someone who can already turn their hand to a wide range of work.
- Confident, competent horse riding skills and your own suitable working horses
- Sound cattle handling and animal husbandry experience
- Ability to identify and treat sick cattle
- Experience operating tractors, loaders and skid steers
- Welding, fencing and practical mechanical maintenance skills
- Reasonable computer skills and a willingness to use our systems
- Good judgement, communication and the ability to work as part of a team
Previous feedlot experience, familiarity with Stock Aide and FeedBunk, and campdrafting or cutting experience would be an advantage.
We're less interested in how long you've been doing something than whether you can actually do it well.
Benefits
- Permanent full-time employment with remuneration based on experience
- On-farm accommodation suitable for a single person
- Paddock space for up to three of your own working horses, with dogs welcome by arrangement
- A varied role across a growing, integrated beef operation
- The opportunity to broaden your knowledge across the entire business, rather than being confined to one area
- A team that values initiative, practical ability and people who pull their weight
If this sounds like your kind of work, hit Apply Now or email ****@bosgrazing.com.au with a little about yourself, your experience and your horses.
We'd love to hear from you.
