Hoa Nghiem Buddhist Collge

Springvale South

Imagine teaching in a small school where the day begins with a moment of stillness, where lessons spill out into the garden, and where kindness is part of the curriculum rather than a poster on the wall. At Hoa Nghiem, we are looking for a primary teacher who wants exactly that: a place to teach with heart, grow as an educator, and make a real difference to a close-knit community of children and families.

If you have ever wished for more connection, more creativity and less hurry in your teaching, we would love to hear from you.

About Hoa Nghiem

Founded in 2016, Hoa Nghiem Buddhist College is a co-educational, independent Buddhist primary school in Springvale South. We are small by design. Our teachers know every child by name, and our families are part of daily school life. Our purpose is simple: to help children grow in wisdom, compassion and ethical action, so they can contribute to a kinder and more sustainable world. Mindfulness, nature-based learning and respect for cultural diversity are woven through everything we do, not added on top of it.

The role

We are seeking a passionate Primary School Teacher to join our team part-time from Term 1, 2027. You will plan and teach an engaging, play-rich program aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, bring mindfulness and outdoor learning into the everyday, and build warm, trusting relationships with students, families and colleagues. This is a wonderful first school for a new graduate. You will be supported, mentored and given room to try new ideas, and you will never be just one of a hundred staff.

Why teachers love working here

- A calm, compassionate workplace. Mindfulness is part of our staff culture, not just our classrooms. We look after each other.
- Small classes and real relationships. You will know every child and family, and they will know you.
- Freedom to teach creatively. Nature-based learning, inquiry, the arts and outdoor classrooms are encouraged, not squeezed in.
- A collaborative, forward-thinking team. We plan together,

learn together and keep improving.
- Support for new graduates. Mentoring from experienced colleagues and a gentle, well-supported start to your career.
- A diverse, welcoming community. Work alongside families from many cultures and backgrounds in the heart of Melbourne's south east.

Who we are looking for

You are a reflective, kind and curious educator who brings:
- Warmth and high expectations for every student, whatever their background or ability
- A real interest in mindfulness, wellbeing and nature-based learning, or a willingness to learn
- Respect for cultural diversity and an openness to Buddhist perspectives (you do not need to be Buddhist)
- Energy, creativity and a team spirit

Key selection criteria

1. Current VIT registration (or provisional registration for 2027 graduates)
2. Ability to plan and deliver engaging learning aligned with the Victorian Curriculum
3. Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students, families and colleagues
4. A demonstrated commitment to child safety and student wellbeing
5. Alignment with the school's values of wisdom, compassion and ethical action

How to apply

We keep it easy. Email the following to [email protected]:

- A short cover letter telling us why Hoa Nghiem feels like the right fit for you (one page is plenty)
- Your resume, including experience relevant to the role and the key selection criteria
- The names and contact details of three confidential referees

Applications close 8 pm, 6 Nov 2026. We review applications as they arrive and may interview before the closing date, so please apply early. Curious but not sure? Call us for a friendly chat on [+61 3 8510 2244](tel:+61 3 8510 2244) or email [email protected]. We are always happy to show you around the school.

Child safety

Hoa Nghiem Buddhist College is a child safe employer committed to the welfare and protection of children. All staff and volunteers must comply with the School's Child Safe Policy and Code of Conduct. Successful applicants will be required to undergo police and background checks in accordance with this policy.
