About the role

As Project Cost Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial success of projects from commencement through to completion. You will oversee budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, reporting and financial compliance while partnering closely with operational teams to drive project performance. Success in this role requires strong commercial acumen, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities across a diverse project portfolio.

Key responsibilities

- Partner with Project Managers and operational teams to develop and maintain project budgets and forecasts.

- Monitor project costs, commitments, revenue and profitability to ensure strong commercial outcomes.

- Prepare and analyse project financial reports, including forecasts, cost performance reports, margin analysis and variance reporting.

- Provide timely financial insights and recommendations to project teams and senior management.

- Review project expenditure, supplier invoices, subcontractor costs and purchase orders for accuracy and correct allocation.

- Manage project billing, revenue recognition, WIP reporting and reconciliations.

- Investigate cost and revenue variances and support the implementation of corrective actions.

- Support project teams with analysis and commercial decision-making.

- Maintain accurate project accounting records and reporting systems.

- Travel to project and mine sites as required to provide financial oversight and stakeholder support.

About you

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline.

- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in Project Accounting, Cost Accounting or a similar role.

- Strong understanding of project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cost management and financial reporting.

- Experience supporting project-based operations within mining, resources, engineering, construction or related industries is highly desirable.





- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency across Microsoft Office applications.

- Experience using ERP or project accounting systems such as Pronto, MYOB Advanced, Jobpac or similar.

- Solid analytical, problem-solving and reconciliation skills.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including operational and site-based teams.

- Full Australian working rights are required.
