Part-Time ($45-60ph) or Subcontractor ($80-100ph) | Warana, Sunshine Coast
Sunshine Coast Diesel Tuning is looking for an experienced mechanic / automotive technician to join our workshop on a part-time basis or as a subcontractor.
This isn't a standard servicing position.
A large part of our work revolves around diesel performance, tuning and modified vehicles. We're looking for someone who enjoys the mechanical side of performance work and can take responsibility for installing performance parts properly from start to finish.
The type of work you'll be doing
- Turbocharger upgrades and replacements
- Intercooler and piping installations
- Exhaust system installations and modifications
- Transmission cooler installations
- Catch cans, intakes and snorkels
- Fuel system and injector upgrades
- Intake manifold removal and refitting
- Carbon-cleaning related mechanical work
- Performance hardware and supporting modifications
- Mechanical inspections before tuning
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues found during tuning
- General mechanical work associated with modified vehicles
- Assisting with larger performance builds and Stage 2 / Stage 3 packages
Most of our work is on diesel 4WDs and performance vehicles, including Rangers, Hiluxes, LandCruisers, D-MAX/MU-X, BT-50s, Navaras, Patrols, Amaroks and similar platforms.
Who we're looking for
We need someone who can be given a job and trusted to complete it properly without constant supervision.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong mechanical experience
- Experience with modified or performance vehicles
- Confidence installing turbos, intercoolers, exhausts and supporting hardware
- Good diagnostic and problem‑solving skills
- High attention to detail
- Experience with modern diesel and 4WD platforms
- Current driver's licence
- Automotive trade qualification preferred
Experience with diesel performance, fabrication, diagnostics or tuning‑related mechanical work would be a big advantage.
We're more interested in ability, workmanship and attitude than simply how many years you've been in the trade.
The standard we expect
Our customers are paying for specialist performance work, so workmanship matters.
Parts need to be installed correctly, wiring and hoses routed properly, fasteners torqued correctly and vehicles returned without leaks, rattles, damage or shortcuts.
If you see something that isn't right, we expect you to raise it and deal with it rather than ignore it.
About the workshop
We're a specialist performance and tuning workshop based in Warana on the Sunshine Coast.
Our work includes ECU and transmission tuning, dyno testing, diagnostics, performance upgrades and mechanical modifications.
We have an AWD Dyno Dynamics chassis dyno along with professional tuning and diagnostic equipment and work on everything from relatively standard touring 4WDs through to heavily modified performance builds.
This is a good chance for someone who enjoys performance work and building vehicles, rather than spending every day doing routine logbook servicing.
Part-Time or Subcontractor
We're flexible on how the position is structured.
Part-time: Approximately 2-4 days per week depending on experience, availability and workload.
Subcontractor: We're also interested in hearing from experienced mechanics or automotive contractors with their own ABN who would like regular performance installation and mechanical work.
For the right person, there is plenty of opportunity for the role to grow as the workshop continues to expand.
