Location:
Charlestown is the largest town in Lake Macquarie, about 10 kilometres from Newcastle's CBD, with Charlestown Square, the Hunter's largest shopping centre, right at its centre. Sherwood Coffee and Cafe Fresh sit inside the centre itself, and Oliver Brown on Pearson Street is a local favourite for something more casual.

Redhead and Dudley beaches are a short drive away, and Lake Macquarie, Australia's largest coastal saltwater lake, is on the doorstep for sailing, kayaking and fishing. Locals often describe Charlestown as having a genuine holiday feel while still offering the convenience of a major regional hub, which is a fair summary of the place.
