DescriptionThe Bigger PictureAt Andromeda Robotics, we're not just imagining the future of human-robot relationships; we're building it.
Abi is the first emotionally intelligent humanoid companion robot, designed to bring care, conversation, and joy to the people who need it most.
Backed by investors such as Forerunner and Main Sequence and with customers already deploying Abi across elder care and healthcare, we're scaling fast, and we're doing it with an engineering-first culture that's obsessed with pushing the limits of what's possible. Our ValuesEmpathy - Kindness and compassion are at the heart of everything we do.Play - Play sharpens focus.
It keeps us curious, fast and obsessed with the craft.Never Settle - A relentless ambition, bias toward action, and uncomfortable levels of curiosity.Tenacity - Tenacious under pressure, we assume chaos and stay in motion to adapt and progress.Unity - Different minds.
Shared mission.
No passengers.About the roleWe are hiring a highly capable generalist engineer to work closely with the CTO on fast-moving robotics projects across software, electronics, mechanical systems, lab infrastructure, prototyping, testing, and deployment. This is not a traditional engineering role with a narrow scope or fixed responsibilities.
Think of it more like a "special ops" role, you wil be deployed wherever you're needed to fix problems and bring more alignment to every team within the business.
It is a broad, hands-on role for someone who can take ambiguous technical problems, learn the system quickly, and drive them toward working outcomes. The role is software-led, but it sits at the intersection of software, electrical engineering, mechanical design, systems integration, and robotics operations.
The ideal person does not need to be a deep specialist in every area.
We are looking for someone who is technically broad, fast to learn, and comfortable figuring things out across domains. This role is well-suited to someone early in their career who is ambitious, hungry, and wants to grow quickly by working on real systems, real robots, and real technical problems.Typical work may include:Building software tools, internal systems, scripts, services, and robotics infrastructureWorking with embedded systems using C/C++ and PythonIntegrating sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, compute modules, and robotic subsystemsReading schematics, datasheets, PCB designs, and electrical documentationDebugging hardware and software issues across the full systemDesigning, modifying, or reviewing simple mechanical parts and assembliesUsing CAD tools to inspect, modify, and prepare designsSupporting 3D printing, CNC machining, tolerancing, prototyping,
and assembly workflowsSetting up lab infrastructure, test rigs, development environments, and CI/CD pipelinesDesigning systems that are reliable, testable, maintainable, and easy to iterate onUsing AI tools and software agents to accelerate development, research, debugging, and implementationRequirementsWhat we are looking forWe are looking for a well-rounded engineer who can move quickly across unfamiliar technical territory. You do not need to be an expert in every domain.
You do need to be able to learn quickly, think clearly, work hard, and take ownership of outcomes. The strongest candidates will have a mix of the following:Software engineeringStrong general software engineering abilityExperience with PythonExperience with embedded C/C++Ability to work with Linux-based systemsUnderstanding of software architecture and systems designExperience with CI/CD, automated testing, build systems, or deployment pipelinesAbility to write clean, practical, maintainable codeComfort working across robotics, infrastructure, backend systems, internal tools, and automationAbility to use AI tools, coding agents, and automation workflows effectivelyElectrical engineeringAbility to read and understand schematicsAbility to read datasheets and understand component behaviourBasic understanding of PCB design and layoutUnderstanding of digital circuits, analogue electronics, sensors, power systems, and embedded hardwareAbility to debug electrical systems using tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analysers, or similar equipmentAbility to reason about system-level electrical design, even if not a specialist electrical engineerMechanical engineeringBasic CAD abilityAbility to inspect, modify, and understand 3D models and technical drawingsUnderstanding of mechanical tolerancing and manufacturabilityFamiliarity with 3D printing, CNC machining, prototyping, fixtures, assemblies, and mechanical debuggingAbility to work with mechanical systems well enough to prototype, test, and collaborate with mechanical engineersSystems thinkingAbility to understand how software, electronics, mechanical systems, manufacturing, testing, and deployment fit togetherAbility to break complex systems into clear components, interfaces, risks,
and next actionsAbility to identify root causes rather than only treating symptomsAbility to make practical engineering trade-offs under time constraintsAbility to think from first principles and learn the missing details quicklySoft skills and transferable skillsBeyond technical ability, we are looking for someone with the mindset and working style to succeed in a broad, fast-moving role. The strongest candidates will demonstrate:Strong ownership and personal accountabilityHigh curiosity and a genuine desire to understand how things workFast learning across unfamiliar technical domainsClear communication, especially around risks, blockers, trade-offs, and uncertaintyGood judgment about when to keep pushing independently and when to ask for helpAbility to break messy problems into clear next stepsComfort working with ambiguity and changing prioritiesStrong attention to detail without getting stuck in perfectionismBias toward action and practical problem-solvingAbility to use feedback quickly and improve from itResilience under pressureWillingness to work hard when the problem demands itAbility to understand the broader goal, not just the task in front of themStrong self-direction and ability to skill up independentlyA collaborative mindset when working with engineers, technicians, operators, and other teamsYou should be comfortable with:Fast project cyclesWorking across several technical domainsLearning new tools and systems rapidlyUsing your own initiative to fill knowledge gapsAsking good questions, then moving quicklyProducing working outcomes, not just analysisTaking ownership from problem definition through to deliverySustaining deep focus on difficult technical problemsBeing measured by impact, not by activityThis role is best suited to someone who wants a steep learning curve, high responsibility, and direct exposure to key technical projects.BenefitsThe salary for this position may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
The total compensation package may also include additional benefits or components based on the specific role.
Details will be provided if an employment offer is made.
Given this is a casual agreement, the salary will be in the form of an hourly rate.If you're excited about this role but don't meet every requirement, that's okay - we encourage you to apply.
