In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing road surfaces, ensuring safe and efficient transportation infrastructure for our community.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a field-based environment.
You will work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to complete maintenance tasks and respond to road-related issues in a timely manner.What you'll be doing:Inspect road surfaces, drainage systems, and related infrastructure to identify maintenance and repair needsPerform routine maintenance activities including patching, sealing, and resurfacing of roadsOperate and maintain heavy equipment such as compactors, pavers, and graders in accordance with safety protocolsRespond promptly to road damage reports and emergency situationsCoordinate with traffic management personnel to ensure public safety during maintenance operationsDocument maintenance activities, equipment usage, and work completed for record-keeping purposesAdhere to all safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all timesCommunicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding project progress and challengesPerform minor repairs and troubleshooting on maintenance equipmentMaintain a clean and organized work environment and properly store tools and materialsThe skills and experience you'll bring to the role:2-3 years of experience in road maintenance, construction,



or similar field-based workProficiency in operating heavy machinery and maintenance equipmentStrong understanding of road safety protocols and traffic management principlesExcellent time management and organizational skillsPhysical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in varying weather conditionsValid Australian driver's licenseDemonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a teamStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilitiesClear communication skills and attention to detailRequired Certifications & Qualifications: Heavy vehicle license (HR or HC class)First Aid certificationTraffic management certificationExperience with road asset management systemsKnowledge of local road infrastructure standards and maintenance schedulesPrevious experience working for local government or transportation authoritiesWhy Hume City Council?
