Now is an exciting time to join our team.

Why You'll Love Working With UsBe the architect of our legal function not a caretaker of a legacy systemWork directly with the CEO and leadership team on high-impact strategic decisionsOperate at the centre of growth, governance, and commercial executionBuild frameworks that scale across Australia and internationallyJoin a high-growth company (150+ employees across AU & UK), still early in its journeyThis is a rare opportunity to design something foundational and see your work shape how the company grows for years to come.
A Day-in-a-Life of our General CounselAs our first General Counsel, you won't be maintaining a legacy function; you'll be a key player in building one from scratch. You'll act as a strategic partner to the CEO, CFO and leadership team, enabling growth while managing risk intelligently.
Some days you'll be advising on a board matter or supporting a fundraising process.
Other days you'll be negotiating a complex commercial agreement, shaping compliance frameworks, or building scalable contract playbooks. You'll balance commercial velocity with thoughtful governance.
You won't just identify risk, you'll help navigate it pragmatically.
You'll translate complex legal issues into clear business decisions that drive momentum without compromising long-term resilience. If you thrive in ambiguity, enjoy building systems from zero, and like being both strategic and hands-on, you'll thrive here.
On any given week, you will be:Advising the CEO, CFO and ELT on legal trade-offs tied to commercial growthReviewing and negotiating customer, supplier, and partnership agreementsSupporting board governance and preparing materials for strategic decisionsBuilding scalable contract templates and approval workflowsPartnering with our Head of People on employment matters, ESOP documentation, employee and industrial relations, and risk mitigationIdentifying regulatory obligations and shaping compliance frameworksDesigning internal policies (delegations, code of conduct,

compliance frameworks)Managing and optimising relationships with external counselTranslating complex legal risks into clear, actionable business decisions Some weeks will lean heavily strategic (fundraising, structuring, governance).
Others will require you to be deeply operational (contracts, policies, systems).
Both matter here.
Type of projects you'll be working on at EatClub...As our first in-house legal team member, you'll design and embed the legal foundations that enable sustainable growth, not slow it down.
Building the Legal Function from the Ground UpDesigning and implementing the company's first scalable legal operating modelEstablishing governance structures that support international expansionCreating a practical, business-aligned risk management frameworkSelecting and implementing legal tech, contract workflow, or automation toolsDeveloping privacy, data protection, and consumer compliance frameworksSupporting future capital raises and investor negotiationsYou will work closely with the CFO and leadership team to ensure governance enables growth rather than constrains it.Commercial & Corporate OperationsBuilding a contract lifecycle management framework to reduce turnaround time and risk exposureOverseeing key commercial negotiations and strategic partnershipsAdvising leadership on regulatory and structural implications of business decisions Employment & Workplace Law Designing, drafting, and maintaining employment contracts, contractor agreements, and termination documentation compliant with Australian and UK lawOverseeing the legal aspects of the full employee lifecycle (hiring, performance management, restructuring, termination)Providing pragmatic advice on complex employee relations matters, investigations, grievances, and disciplinary actionManaging employment disputes and litigation in collaboration with external counselMonitoring legislative developments across employment and WHS and translating them into business-ready policiesDesigning and delivering legal training to People & Culture and leadership teams Executive & Equity CompensationAdvising on the legal and tax implications of employee share schemes (ESOP)Structuring executive compensation arrangementsEnsuring compliance with Australian corporate and tax regulations related to equity programs What makes this role differentThis is not a "review contracts" role.

You will build systems, influence executive decision-making, and shape how legal supports strategy at every stage of growth. You won't inherit a mature legal department.
You'll create one.
You have...Admission to practice in Australia (required)5+ years PQEStrong commercial law backgroundExperience in a top-tier or mid-tier firm and/or high-growth companyExperience supporting capital raises and board governanceComfort operating autonomously as a sole legal functionIt would be extra awesome if you also had...Experience in a scale-up or marketplace environmentExposure to international expansionExperience designing legal tech systems or workflow automationYou are...Commercially minded - you don't just say "no," you help find a path forwardCalm and clear in complexityComfortable prioritising in ambiguitySystems-oriented and you build frameworks, not just fix problemsAble to balance speed with long-term resilienceA strong cross-functional communicator who can translate legal nuance into business clarity If you do a good job...Legal becomes a strategic growth enabler, not a reactive checkpoint. The CEO and leadership team rely on you for transparent judgment, pragmatic risk navigation, and structured decision-making.
The Board trusts that governance is robust, transparent, and scalable.
Teams across the business move faster because they have clarity, strong frameworks, and well-designed guardrails.
Within 12 months:Legal risk is proactively identified and managed before it becomes disruptiveContracts move efficiently through scalable templates and clear approval pathwaysGovernance processes are structured, consistent, and investor-readyFundraising and strategic initiatives are supported by robust financial and legal frameworksCompliance systems scale confidently as the company expands internationallyExternal counsel is used strategically, not reactivelyYour impact is visible in how confidently the business makes decisions.Maybe this role is not for you if....
You're uncomfortable being the sole legal leader and primary decision-makerYou prefer operating within established legal departments You prefer highly structured environments with clearly defined boundaries and processesYou focus primarily on identifying risk rather than helping the business navigate itYou need perfect information before making recommendationsYou prefer technical depth without regular exposure to commercial trade-offsYou're looking for a narrow specialist remit rather than broad ownership across commercial, governance, employment, and complianceThis role requires comfort with ambiguity, accountability, and pragmatic judgement. If this sounds like you, apply now and help us shape the future of hospitality tech.
