Job Description
Youth Development Officer | South Mackay
Genuine Outcomes provides residential care in Mackay, and we have a clear plan for where we're headed.
New residences are opening over the next few months, so we're filling YDO positions now.
Growth here means more roles and more room to progress for people who are good at this work.
We work to HSQF standards and treat continuous improvement as part of the job, both in how we run the organisation and in the care we give young people.
There's no paperwork mountain here.
We're fully digital, our doors are open, and we say what we mean, so YDOs spend their time where it counts.
Directors and senior managers are easy to reach, constructive, and hands‐on when problems need solving.
We stand behind our staff, we're honest with them, and we've built the kind of workplace good people don't want to leave.
If you're in this for the young people, you'll feel at home.
About The Position
Youth Development Officers care for and guide at‐risk young people living in Residential Out of Home Care.
To us, a residence is a home, not a place to wait things out.
We put real effort into getting young people involved in their community, following their interests, and forming connections beyond the front door.
That's how they build independence, social confidence, and a sense of ownership over their own future.
You'll help make that happen while forming genuine relationships, delivering life skills programs, and being someone they can count on.
Your Responsibilities
Supervise and support young people, keeping them safe while helping them discover their strengths
Keep young people safe and supported while helping them find out what they're good at
Form real connections and act as a positive role model and mentor
Work with the Youth Development Coordinator to deliver individual care plans and programs
Run group activities, workshops, and life skills sessions
Keep case notes and progress records accurate and up to date
Collaborate well with a multidisciplinary team
Handle crises with a level head, de-escalation skills, and sound judgement
Teach practical independent living skills such as cooking, budgeting, and personal care
Requirement
Meet the Minimum Qualification Standards
Queensland Blue Card and a Police Check dated within the last 3 months
NDIS Worker Screening (Yellow Card), or willing to obtain one
Current First Aid and CPR certificates
Hope and Healing Certificate, completed before your start date
Open Queensland Driver's Licence
Able to work a rotating roster covering days, weekends, and sleepovers
Clear communicator who earns trust quickly
Stays calm under pressure and keeps routines on track
Understanding of trauma‐informed care and positive behaviour support is highly regarded
Why Join Us
Valuable pay, work that matters, and genuine flexibility.
A close, supportive team that takes the job seriously and has each other's backs.
First pick of new roles and opportunities as each new residence opens.
