Wanted: A Partner in Safety, Not the Safety Police
At OFI's Carwarp plant, just outside Mildura, we turn a great many almonds into a excellent deal of product. It's a busy site with processing, logistics, stockpads and plenty of moving machinery. What it needs now is one person who makes sure everyone goes home in the same condition they arrived.
This is the only safety role on site, so there's no hiding behind someone else's clipboard. If you're happiest with your boots on the floor and your eyes on what's actually happening, read on. If you prefer your safety from behind a monitor, this probably isn't your nut to crack.
You'll have the authority to stop the plant when something isn't right, and the backbone to use it. That doesn't make this a policing role, and it isn't a popularity contest either. The right person will be respected rather than everyone's mate: firm when it counts and fair every time. You care about safety because you care about people, and you understand that product quality and OFI's reputation depend on getting it right too.
What you'll be cracking into
Reporting to the Head of Almond Processing Operations and the regional safety manager, you'll partner with site leaders to lift safety standards across the whole operation. Day to day that means safety walks and inspections, leading risk assessments and safe operating procedures,
running inductions and training for employees and contractors, coaching supervisors and leading ICAM investigations when things go wrong. You'll keep the site compliant with WHS legislation and EPA obligations and be the main contact for WorkSafe, the EPA and the CFA.
In the interest of honesty, there is some screen time. You'll look after MYOSH, SAP Safety and iSpring, keep training records current and build Power BI reporting so leadership can see the trends. The difference is that here the data starts on the floor, not the other way around.
What you'll bring
A Diploma or higher in Occupational Health and Safety is essential. Ideally you'll have around five years of safety leadership in food processing, manufacturing or another medium to high risk environment. Strong ICAM skills, experience with MYOSH or a similar system and the confidence to work with regulators and HSRs will set you apart. Most of all, you can spot a hazard, turn it into a practical control and come back to check it actually works.
Why it's worth it
Real influence. You won't be one voice among many, you'll be the voice of safety on site, backed by a global business that genuinely puts safety first. Sunraysia sunshine comes at no extra cost.
