- Great work life balance
- Small but mighty team
Love solving problems, improving processes and making a real impact on the factory floor?
At The Real Pet Food Company, we’re passionate about creating fresher, more nutritious food for pets. As a leader in the pet food industry, we’re always looking for better ways to do things — from improving production efficiency and reducing waste to enhancing product quality and safety.
We’re looking for a hands-on Process Engineer to join our Somersby manufacturing site. This is an opportunity to turn data and technical insights into practical improvements, working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance and other teams to make our manufacturing processes safer, smarter and more efficient.
If you enjoy getting to the root cause of problems, challenging the status quo and seeing your ideas translate into measurable results, this could be the role for you.
What will you be doing?
Reporting to our Site Operations Manager, you’ll play a key role in optimising production processes and driving continuous improvement across our site. You’ll work at the intersection of people, process and technology to improve performance, product quality and operational reliability.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Optimising manufacturing processes to improve throughput, line efficiency, yield, quality and cost performance across production and packaging operations.
- Driving continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to eliminate waste, reduce process variation and improve productivity using Lean, Six Sigma and other improvement methodologies.
- Solving problems at the source by investigating production issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
- Using data to drive decisions by analysing manufacturing performance, identifying trends and translating insights into practical improvement initiatives.
- Developing and maintaining SOPs and process documentation to ensure consistent ways of working, operational control and compliance.
- Supporting food safety and quality by ensuring processes align with HACCP, GMP, relevant regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
- Embedding change on the factory floor by working alongside operators and team leaders to introduce new processes, build capability and ensure improvements are sustained.
What will make you successful?
You’re a curious, analytical and practical problem-solver who enjoys being close to the operation. You can work with data and technical detail, but you also know that the best solutions are developed with the people who run the processes every day.
You’ll ideally bring:
- 2–5 years’ experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering or a similar role within FMCG, food production or another high-volume manufacturing environment.
- An understanding of production and packaging lines, including filling, packing and high-speed manufacturing processes.
- Experience identifying process inefficiencies and implementing improvements that deliver measurable operational results.
- Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel and ideally Minitab or similar data analysis tools.
- Practical experience with root cause analysis techniques such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams and FMEA.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, waste reduction and process optimisation.
- An understanding of food safety, HACCP, GMP and manufacturing compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with CAD, process flow design and automation or control systems such as PLCs, SCADA and HMIs.
A degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is desirable. Lean or Six Sigma certification, particularly Green Belt or higher, would also be highly regarded.
Life on site
This is a site-based role where you’ll spend time on the floor working directly with operational teams. as well as analysing data and planning improvements.
Our manufacturing environment is varied, and you’ll need to be comfortable working across production and warehouse areas, including chilled, wet, dusty and ambient environments.
Flexibility to engage with teams across different shifts is important, as is a willingness to get involved, understand the challenges firsthand and help implement solutions where they matter most.
Occasional travel may be required for training, industry events, supplier visits or collaboration with other company sites.
