Who We Are
In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.
As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.
Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.
If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.
About The Role
Reporting to the Manager Energy & Emissions, this permanent, full-time role will see you manage and analyse energy and emissions data to support Melbourne Water’s regulatory and reporting obligations.
You’ll extract, validate and consolidate data across wastewater processes, fugitive emissions, electricity, gas and fuel, translating complex information into accurate reporting for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies, including the Clean Energy Regulator.
You’ll also administer and improve emissions calculation processes and systems, including EDMS, requiring strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a methodical, data-driven approach.
In this role you will:
- Coordinate the collection, extraction and analysis of energy, operational and emissions data from multiple systems and stakeholders, working with large data sets and data dumps to produce accurate and digestible information.
- Ensure Melbourne Water meets its greenhouse gas and energy compliance obligations, particularly National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) requirements.
- Calculate, validate and report emissions associated with operational activities, including wastewater treatment processes, fugitive emissions, electricity, gas and fuel consumption.
- Establish and maintain appropriate controls to verify emissions data, emission factors and calculations, ensuring accuracy, traceability and audit readiness.
- Administer, optimise and continuously improve emissions calculation systems and processes, including identifying opportunities for greater automation and more efficient reporting.
- Prepare energy and greenhouse gas information for mandatory regulatory and corporate reporting, including NGER,
Annual Report, ESC and other emissions-related reporting.
- Build strong relationships across the business, proactively working with stakeholders to obtain required information, investigate anomalies and resolve data quality issues within reporting deadlines.
- Drive projects and initiatives that involve process improvement, sustainability and renewable energy.
- Maintain an understanding of relevant emissions legislation and represent Melbourne Water in its interactions with regulatory bodies, including the Clean Energy Regulator.
About You
You’ll be a self-driven and methodical professional who enjoys working with complex data, extracting and validating information to ensure accurate and reliable reporting. Experience in wastewater treatment, chemical/process engineering or industrial environments would be valuable, alongside knowledge of carbon accounting, energy and emissions reporting or environmental compliance.
You will ideally have:
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, sustainability, environmental science, data or a related discipline, with chemical, process or wastewater engineering backgrounds particularly relevant.
- Experience or strong knowledge of carbon accounting, greenhouse gas emissions calculations, energy reporting and/or environmental compliance frameworks, ideally including NGER.
- Strong analytical capability and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with confidence working with large data extracts, reconciling information and converting raw data into clear and meaningful reports.
- An understanding of emissions sources and calculation methodologies, including measurement, estimation and application of appropriate emissions factors.
- Experience working with operational or industrial data, with knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, fugitive emissions or chemical/process environments highly regarded.
- Strong attention to detail,
quality assurance and auditing capability, with the ability to identify anomalies and confidently verify the integrity of reported information.
- Experience with databases, data management, reporting tools and/or automation, with programming capability beneficial.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the confidence to proactively follow up with stakeholders for information and work across the organisation to meet regulatory reporting deadlines.
- Plan, coordinate and drive projects/initiative activities to achieve agreed milestones, deliverables and outcomes within established timeframes to drive process improvement, sustainability and renewable energy outcomes.
- A valid Victorian Driver Licence is required for this position.
