- Influence governance, risk and assurance across a major Queensland Council
- Bring independent insight and constructive challenge to complex issues
- Senior advisory appointment | Initial four-year term
Logan City Council is seeking an experienced professional to join its Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) as an Independent External Member, providing independent oversight, insight and advice to support strong governance, accountability and organisational performance.
As one of Queensland's largest local governments, Logan City Council operates in a complex and evolving environment, delivering a diverse range of services and infrastructure to its growing community. The Audit and Risk Committee provides an important independent perspective, assisting Council and the Chief Executive Officer in discharging their responsibilities and promoting transparency, accountability and a strong ethical culture.
The Committee's remit is broad, encompassing financial management and reporting, internal and external audit, enterprise risk and compliance, internal controls, cybersecurity, fraud and complaints, business continuity and continuous improvement. Members are expected to bring independent judgement and constructive challenge, helping Council identify emerging risks, test assumptions and maintain contemporary approaches to governance and assurance.
To be successful in this role, you will be an accomplished senior leader with a strong financial background, complemented by experience across audit, risk management, corporate governance and internal controls. You will bring a sophisticated understanding of financial management and reporting and the ability to interrogate complex financial and organisational matters, identify areas requiring further enquiry and provide clear, considered and independent advice.
You will have extensive experience operating at a senior leadership or advisory level within a large and complex organisation, together with a strong understanding of the legislative, regulatory and governance environments applying to government agencies and/or large enterprises. Experience within local government, the broader public sector or another highly regulated and complex environment will be essential. Relevant professional qualifications and memberships, including CPA, CA, IIA or IPA, will be highly regarded.
Independence is fundamental to the appointment. Applicants must satisfy the independence requirements contained within Logan City Council's Audit and Risk Committee Charter, including requirements relating to current or recent Council employment, elected office, professional services provided to Council, business and personal relationships and other actual or perceived conflicts of interest.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the governance and stewardship of Logan City Council, bringing your financial expertise, independent perspective and skilled judgement to matters of significance for Council and the community it serves.
