2027 First-Year Apprentice Intake
Multiple Trade and Technician Pathways | Bendigo
Industrial Conveying (Aust) Pty Ltd
Full Time | Starting January 2027
Sick of exams? Ready to start doing something real?
Finishing school and ready to swap textbooks for tools?
Good with your hands? Like making things, fixing things or pulling things apart to understand how they work?
Would you rather earn while you learn and study something you are genuinely interested in?
ICA is recruiting first-year apprentices to start in January 2027.
Opportunities are available for future:
- Fabricators
- Welders
- Fitters
- Machinists
- Sheet Metal Workers
- Electricians
- Industrial Painters and Surface Treatment Technicians
You do not need previous trade experience, and you do not need to have your whole career planned.
You need to be reliable, willing to learn, good with your hands and ready to have a go.
Which opportunity sounds like you?
Fabricators and Welders
Like working with steel and seeing something real take shape at the end of the day?
Learn to fabricate, weld and assemble custom machinery and engineered equipment.
Fitters
Are you the person who wants to know how a machine works and why it stopped working?
Learn to assemble, install, test, maintain and repair mechanical equipment.
Machinists
Like machinery, technology and making things accurately?
Learn to manufacture precision components using modern machining equipment, measuring tools and manufacturing technology.
Sheet Metal Workers
Can you picture how a flat sheet of metal becomes a finished component?
Learn to manufacture guards, covers, cabinets, chutes and other accurate sheet-metal components for custom machinery.
Electricians
Interested in wiring, controls, automation and making machinery come to life?
Learn about industrial electrical systems, machinery wiring, control cabinets, testing, fault-finding and automation.
Industrial Painters and Surface Treatment Technicians
Like practical work where you can see the result at the end of the day?
Learn abrasive blasting, steel preparation and the application of commercial and industrial protective coatings.
This is not house painting. It is skilled industrial work involving specialised equipment, coating systems, surface preparation, quality standards and the protection of manufactured equipment.
More than an apprenticeship
At ICA, an apprenticeship is not where your development finishes. It is where your career begins.
We do not train people to complete one narrow task for the rest of their working lives.
Our aim is to develop apprentices into highly capable, multi-skilled tradespeople and technicians.
As your skills grow, you may gain experience across:
- Manufacturing
- Machinery and automation
- Installation
- Testing and fault-finding
- Commissioning
- Technical problem-solving
- Site and project work
If you want to keep learning after completing your trade, ICA will support further training and development.
Your pathway could take you from:
Apprentice → Qualified Tradesperson → Multi-skilled Technician → Leading Hand or Supervisor → Further Technical Study → Engineering
Not everyone wants to follow the same pathway, and that is fine. You can build an excellent career as a skilled tradesperson, specialist technician, supervisor or site professional.
But if you have the ability and ambition to keep progressing, we do not believe your development should stop when your apprenticeship finishes.
At ICA, your trade is your foundation, not your ceiling.
You bring the effort, ability and ambition. We will provide the training, experience and pathway to help you continue developing.
Good pay and conditions
ICA apprentices are covered by the Industrial Conveying (Aust) Pty Ltd Enterprise Agreement 2025–2029.
The agreement provides apprentice wage classifications and guaranteed annual wage increases of at least 2.5% or CPI, whichever is greater.
ICA apprentices also receive
- Monthly RDOs
- Tools and equipment required for their role
- Practical workplace training
- Formal trade training
- Support from experienced tradespeople, technicians and engineers
- Continued training opportunities beyond the apprenticeship
- Exposure to diverse custom-engineered projects
We pay well because we want to attract good people, train them properly and give them a reason to build their careers with ICA.
This is not the same job every day
ICA designs, manufactures, installs and commissions custom materials-handling and automation systems.
Our apprentices work alongside experienced tradespeople, technicians and engineers on real equipment and real projects.
Depending on your chosen pathway, you could gain experience in:
- Fabrication and welding
- Precision machining
- Mechanical fitting and assembly
- Sheet-metal manufacture
- Electrical and control systems
- Industrial automation
- Abrasive blasting and surface preparation
- Industrial painting and protective coatings
- Testing and commissioning
- Installation and site work
As your experience develops, there may also be opportunities to work on ICA projects across Australia and overseas.
Who should apply?
This intake is for people ready to start their first apprenticeship, including:
- Students completing Year 12 in 2026
- Year 10 or 11 students ready to leave school for full-time work
- Recent school leavers
- People who are mechanically, technically or practically minded
- People who enjoy making, fixing or understanding things
- Reliable people who turn up, listen and have a go
- People who want a genuine career rather than simply another job
Maybe you work on cars, motorbikes or farm machinery.
Maybe you build things in the shed, enjoy metalwork or technology at school, play with electronics, build computers or pull broken things apart to find out what went wrong.
Maybe you take pride in preparing, painting or finishing something properly.
Or maybe you simply know that sitting behind a desk all day is not for you.
If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you.
Not sure which pathway suits you?
That is completely fine.
You are choosing what you want to learn. You are not expected to already know how to do it.
Tell us what you enjoy, what you are good at and what interests you. We will consider your application across the available opportunities.
What happens after you apply?
Shortlisted applicants will complete
- Aptitude testing
- Mechanical reasoning testing
- Drug and alcohol testing
- Pre-employment medical and physical checks
You do not need the flashiest resume or the best exam results.
We are looking for people with the aptitude, attitude and potential to become excellent tradespeople and technicians.
Finish your exams. Then start learning something you actually want to learn.
These are first-year apprenticeships starting in January 2027.
Apply through SEEK with your resume and briefly tell us:
1. Which opportunities interest you?
2. Why do you want to start an apprenticeship?
3. What is something you have built, fixed, modified, restored, painted or pulled apart?
Ready to swap textbooks for tools, start earning and build a career that can take you from apprentice to technician and beyond? Apply now.
