Walk Alongside Our Blak Youth. Change the Game for Their Future. ??❤️ Are you passionate about cultural safety, relational connection, and fighting for the rights of Blak young people? Do you believe that education should fit the young person—not the other way around?
At Jabiru Community College (JCC), we’ve thrown out the traditional, rigid school model. Operating on Big Picture Learning Design, we meet young people in Years 10–12 exactly where they’re at—building personalised learning around their passions, identity, and real-world projects.
We are seeking a dedicated Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Community Development Worker to join our vibrant Culture & Creative team.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Culturally Scaffold Big Picture Learning: Act as a cultural consultant, weaving First Nations ways of knowing, being, and doing into Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), interest-based projects, and Exhibitions.
- Relational Outreach & Advocacy: Serve as a vital bridge for young people disconnected from campus due to youth justice involvement, suspensions, or systemic barriers—keeping their learning journey and cultural connection uninterrupted.
- Lead Blak Space & Cultural Programs: Champion Blak Space as a safe landing place, facilitate cultural programs (including Rainbow Mob / Queer First Nations youth support),
and co-lead on-country Blak Camps and Family Days.
- Real-World Connections: Connect young people to Learning Through Internships (LTIs), community Elders, and culturally protected local networks.
Why You’ll Love Working at JCC:
- Paid Above Award Wages: Matched to SCHADS Award rates.
- Real Work-Life Balance: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm daily schedule.
- Collaborative & Supported: Work closely alongside a Co-Aboriginal Community Worker, dedicated Co-Principals, and a passionate Culture & Creative team.
- Deeply Relational Culture: A workplace where trauma-informed care, restorative justice, and genuine care for young people aren't just buzzwords—they are our daily practice.
What You Need:
- Identity: Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
- Qualifications/Experience: Cert IV or higher in a relevant field, OR extensive documented experience in Community Cultural Development.
- Safety: Current Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
- Heart & Grit: A deeply relational approach, understanding of youth justice/child protection systems, and a commitment to walking alongside young people through the highs and lows.
