Employment type: Permanent full-time
Salary: $80,000–$90,000 per annum plus superannuation
About us
SENS Partners Pty Ltd, trading as Highmark Cricket and Pro Football Group, operates in the sports retail industry in south-east Melbourne. We are seeking an Accountant to take responsibility for financial reporting, management accounting and compliance across the business.
About the role
This is a professional accounting position. You will prepare the financial and management reports used by the directors, apply Australian Accounting Standards to the close, and advise management on results, cash flow and internal controls. Day-to-day processing sits under that responsibility. It is not a bookkeeping or data-entry role.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts and annual financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash-flow reports, in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards.
- Own the month-end and year-end close, including general-ledger review, journals, accruals, prepayments and balance-sheet reconciliations, and investigate and clear variances.
- Analyse revenue, margins and operating costs, and prepare written commentary and variance reports for management.
- Prepare budgets and cash-flow forecasts, and advise the directors on financial performance and commercial decisions.
- Prepare and lodge business activity statements, calculate GST, and prepare income-tax workpapers. You are responsible for the accuracy of those figures and for liaising with the external tax agent.
- Maintain the fixed-asset register and calculate depreciation in line with accounting standards.
- Review inventory valuation and cost of goods sold, and confirm the accounting treatment of retail and e-commerce sales.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and control accounts as part of the accounting function, and strengthen the related internal controls.
- Manage external audit queries, prepare audit schedules, and keep the accounting records complete and supportable.
What you will bring
- A bachelor degree in accounting, commerce or a related discipline.
- At least three years’ relevant accounting experience, including preparation of management accounts and month-end close.
- Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, GST and BAS requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Solid analytical and written skills, and the ability to work independently and meet reporting deadlines.
- Experience in retail or e-commerce is highly regarded.
- Progress towards CA or CPA membership is highly regarded.
What we offer
- A salary of $80,000–$90,000 per annum plus superannuation, depending on experience.
- A permanent full-time accounting role in a growing sports retail business.
- Responsibility for reporting, compliance and advice to management, not only transaction processing.
How to apply
Apply through this platform with your résumé and a brief cover letter outlining your accounting experience, including preparation of financial statements and management reports. Applications are open to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and other candidates with the right to work in Australia.
