About the role

Reporting to the Manager / Director, you will manage and maintain bee colonies and contribute to planning seasonal honey production, breeding and pollination activities.

This is a physically demanding outdoor role involving lifting and moving hive boxes, handling equipment and working closely with bees in varying weather conditions. It requires practical beekeeping knowledge, sound judgement and the ability to work independently and within a team.

Travel between apiary sites and periods working away from home are required during seasonal honey production and pollination activities. Applicants must be comfortable with these requirements and able to perform the work safely, with reasonable adjustments where required.

Key responsibilities

- Assess colony strength, queen performance, brood development, nutrition and overall bee health.
- Plan and undertake colony management activities according to seasonal conditions, flowering patterns and pollination requirements.
- Breed, raise and maintain bees, including colony splitting, requeening and queen-rearing activities.
- Monitor pests and diseases and implement appropriate treatments and biosecurity measures.
- Prepare colonies for crop pollination and coordinate hive placement and movements.
- Monitor floral resources and nutritional needs to support colony development and honey production.
- Manage risks associated with pesticide exposure through appropriate planning and communication.
- Harvest and extract honey while maintaining hygiene and product quality.

- Maintain accurate records of colony inspections, treatments, breeding, production and hive movements.
- Safely load, transport and unload hives and equipment.
- Maintain beekeeping equipment, vehicles and work areas.
- Follow workplace safety procedures and support team members in secure apiary practices.

Skills and experience

- Demonstrated commercial beekeeping experience, including independent colony management.
- Proven practical skills in breeding, raising and maintaining bees.
- Knowledge of bee health, pest and disease management, biosecurity, honey production and pollination.
- Ability to assess colony conditions, identify problems and make practical management decisions.
- Good organisational skills and accurate record keeping.
- Reliability, effective communication and the ability to work within a team.
- Ability to undertake physically demanding outdoor work safely, with reasonable adjustments where required.
- Willingness to travel and stay away from home when seasonal operations require it.
- A current driver’s licence valid for the required work.
- A heavy vehicle or forklift licence would be highly regarded.

What we offer

- Full-time employment based in regional NSW.
- A base salary starting from $80,000 per year, plus superannuation, depending on relevant skills and experience.
- 38 ordinary hours per week, with applicable overtime, penalties and allowances paid separately.
- Reimbursement of authorised work-related travel expenses.
- Varied work across colony management, breeding, honey production and pollination.
- Opportunities to contribute your experience and develop your skills within our business.
