Intelligence Capability Portfolio Support (ICPS) seek a high-performing EL 1 to provide strategic assurance and advice within Defence Intelligence Group (DIG). Working under broad direction, you’ll exercise a high degree of judgement and independence to support DIG projects navigate the Defence Capability System and progressing capability outcomes aligned with Defence and National Intelligence priorities.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to strategically significant capabilities while developing strong professional networks across Defence's capability and investment communities.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing strategic advice to project teams on capability development, approval pathways and evolving policy requirements.
- Maintaining knowledge of Defence capability policy, Defence committee expectations and investment approval processes and translating these into practical guidance.
- Developing and assuring documentation including ministerial briefs, cabinet submissions and project artefacts.
- Building robust relationships across Defence to resolve complex capability issues.
- Leading a small team to support a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

ICPS works closely with project stakeholders and key decision-makers across the Defence capability enterprise. We provide strategic advice on capability policy, approval pathways and committee expectations. Through the delivery of quality assurance,
risk-informed guidance and stakeholder engagement, ICPS supports projects to strengthen submissions, address emerging issues and improve readiness for Defence and Government consideration.

You’ll demonstrate sound judgement and be comfortable working with ambiguity and competing priorities. You’ll build and sustain productive relationships both within DIG and across Defence, using strong communication and engagement skills to influence outcomes and support collaboration.
Our ideal candidate will produce high-quality written work and communicate complex issues with clarity and precision. You’ll be able to synthesise information from multiple sources, identify key issues and risks, and develop transparent, evidence-based advice for decision-makers. While experience preparing capability documentation or ministerial briefs will be highly regarded, applicants with strong writing and analytical skills gained in other policy, project, operational or corporate environments are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Negative
Vetting (NV) 1 is required, with upgrade to Positive Vetting likely.
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
