Civil Estimator – Renewable Energy Infrastructure

- Price the civil works behind major Australian wind-farm developments
- Brisbane or Melbourne-based opportunity
- Suited to a Civil Estimator or Civil Engineer with strong commercial capability
- Long-term renewable-energy project pipeline

The best estimators do more than produce a number. They understand how the work will be built, identify what is missing from the scope and can clearly explain the assumptions, risks and methodology behind their estimate.

We are representing an established infrastructure contractor expanding its renewable-energy capability across Australia. The business is seeking a capable Civil Estimator to support the preparation of tenders for the civil scope of major wind-farm projects.

Based in either Brisbane or Melbourne and reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will work closely with civil engineers, construction leaders, suppliers and subcontractors to develop accurate, practical and commercially competitive estimates.

The role

You will price the civil balance-of-plant works associated with large renewable-energy developments, including:

- Bulk and detailed earthworks
- Drainage and stormwater infrastructure
- Access roads, pavements and hardstands
- Concrete foundations and associated civil works
- Underground services and site infrastructure
- Temporary works and construction facilities

Your responsibilities will include:

- Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation
- Preparing quantity take-offs and first-principles estimates
- Building rates across labour, plant, materials and subcontracted works

- Preparing and issuing subcontractor and supplier enquiries
- Assessing quotations and identifying scope gaps or inconsistencies
- Developing assumptions, qualifications, exclusions and clarifications
- Identifying tender risks, opportunities and alternative construction methodologies
- Contributing to bid strategy, tender reviews and commercial discussions
- Preparing accurate and well-structured tender submissions
- Supporting post-tender clarifications and handover to the delivery team

About you You may already be working as a Civil Estimator, or you may be a Civil or Project Engineer who has developed solid estimating and pre-contracts experience.

To be considered, you will bring:

- Demonstrated experience estimating civil construction works
- Experience across earthworks, drainage, roads, pavements or associated infrastructure
- The ability to develop first-principles rates covering labour, plant, materials and productivity
- Strong drawing, specification and quantity take-off capability
- Experience engaging with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain and evaluate pricing
- A practical understanding of civil construction methodology and project delivery
- Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to explain and defend your estimate,

challenge unclear scope and engage effectively with technical and commercial stakeholders
- A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline

Experience within wind farms, renewable energy, mining infrastructure, utilities or major civil projects will be highly regarded. Exposure to Expert Estimation, CostX, Candy, Benchmark or comparable estimating software would be advantageous. Familiarity with Australian construction practices, standards and the local subcontractor market will also be well regarded.

The opportunity

This is an opportunity to join an established contractor at a time of significant growth across the Australian renewable-energy market.

The position offers:

- A permanent, Monday-to-Friday role
- The choice of being based in Brisbane or Melbourne
- Remuneration of up to $190,00+, depending on experience
- Exposure to major wind-farm and renewable-infrastructure tenders
- Direct involvement in shaping how projects will be delivered
- Support from an experienced estimating and project-delivery team
- A strong and developing pipeline of renewable-energy work

Applications will be treated in strict confidence.
