Construction Manager - Mechanical
Melbounre
$270,000 + Package
I’m working with a leading national Tier 1 mechanical contractor who are looking to bring an experienced Construction Manager into their established Mids division.
This one is a little different from your typical Construction Manager role.
They’re not necessarily looking for someone who has been a Construction Manager for the last 10 years. They’re equally interested in speaking with Senior Project Managers who have spent 5+ years operating at that level and feel ready to take the next step.
Likewise, if you’re already a Construction Manager and feel like you’ve hit a ceiling or simply want a change of environment, they’re very open to having that conversation.
The Division The Mids division delivers mechanical projects up to around $8m across a mix of sectors.
You’ll be joining an established team with experienced Project Managers, Engineers and site teams around you, backed by the resources and systems of a national Tier 1 contractor.
It’s a good middle ground. The projects are large enough to be interesting and technically challenging, but the role gives you exposure across multiple projects and teams rather than being tied to the delivery of 1 major project for the next few years.
The Role The role will see you working across the division, supporting the PMs and project teams and making sure projects are being delivered properly from both an operational and commercial perspective.
You’ll be involved across:
- Overseeing mechanical projects up to approximately $8m
- Supporting and managing Project Managers and Engineers
- Project performance, forecasting and commercial oversight
- Client, builder and consultant relationships
- Resourcing and project planning
- Identifying and managing project risks
- Mentoring and developing the wider delivery team
- Working closely with senior management on the continued growth of the division
Who They’re Looking For
You’ll need a strong background within mechanical/HVAC contracting and a good understanding of what it takes to successfully deliver projects.
Ideally, you’ll be
- An experienced Senior Project Manager with 5+ years operating at that level and ready to step up
- An existing Construction Manager looking for a change
- Experienced delivering mechanical projects within the commercial construction market
- Robust commercially as well as operationally
- Comfortable managing and supporting multiple project teams
- Someone who enjoys developing people and creating a strong team environment
- Confident dealing with builders, clients and consultants at a senior level
Why This Business?
The biggest selling point for me is the business itself.
They’re a genuine national Tier 1 mechanical contractor with the systems, engineering capability and project pipeline you’d expect from a business of that size, but they’ve managed to maintain a very supportive culture.
People are given the backing to do their jobs properly, senior management are accessible and there is a genuine focus on developing people rather than simply moving them from project to project.
For someone who has been sitting at Senior PM level for a while and wants more responsibility without jumping straight into managing enormous $50m+ packages, I think this is a particularly good next move.
Equally, if you’re already operating as a Construction Manager and want to join a strong national business with a good team around you, it’s worth a conversation.
All applications and conversations will be treated in the strictest confidence.
