The Cook will be responsible for preparing, seasoning and cooking a variety of café meals in accordance with established recipes, portioning and presentation standards. The successful candidate will work as part of our kitchen team to ensure meals are prepared efficiently and consistently during both preparation and service periods while maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and workplace safety.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Examine ingredients and food products to ensure freshness, quality and suitability for preparation and cooking.
- Prepare ingredients for service, including measuring, washing, cutting, trimming, mixing, marinating and seasoning food.
- Prepare, season and cook a variety of breakfast and lunch dishes in accordance with established recipes and café standards.
- Operate and regulate ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment, including monitoring cooking times and temperatures.
- Monitor food throughout the cooking process to ensure appropriate quality, consistency and presentation.
- Portion and plate meals, including adding sauces, garnishes and accompaniments in accordance with presentation and serving standards.
- Prepare meals to accommodate customers' dietary requirements and reasonable modifications where required.
- Store ingredients and prepared food in appropriate temperature-controlled facilities and ensure correct labelling, dating and stock rotation.




- Monitor food supplies and advise relevant kitchen staff or management when stock requires replenishment.
- Assist with receiving and checking food deliveries and appropriately storing incoming ingredients and supplies.
- Maintain clean and sanitary food preparation areas, cooking equipment, utensils and kitchen workspaces in accordance with food safety requirements.
- Minimise food wastage through appropriate preparation, storage and portion-control practices.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other kitchen staff during preparation and service to ensure orders are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Assist with the development and preparation of daily specials and recent café menu items as required.

The Skills Required for This Position Are:

- Certificate III and/or IV in Kitchen Management or an equivalent relevant qualification
- Minimum 1 year experience working as a Cook in a café/restaurant/commercial kitchen environment.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and cooking meals in a commercial kitchen;
- Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene, food storage and temperature-control requirements;
- Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively;
- Ability to maintain consistency in food quality, portioning and presentation;
- Ability to work efficiently and remain organised during busy breakfast and lunch service periods;
- Good communication, teamwork and time-management skills; and
- Ability to work a flexible roster where required.
