ABOUT THE ROLE The Curator position at Hamilton Gallery offers a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the gallery's identity and enhancing its reputation within the arts community.

The position will collaborate closely with the Director and Gallery Operations Manager to develop and roll out a dynamic exhibition program that captivates audiences, fosters engagement and aligns with strategic priorities.

The Curator position plays a pivotal role in shaping the gallery’s identity and enhancing its reputation within the arts community.

As the Curator you will collaborate and contribute with other team members and engage with external stakeholders to value add to the current and future new gallery.

In this role, you will:

- Develop and curate high-quality exhibitions, displays and collection projects that engage diverse audiences and offer new perspectives
- Research, interpret and promote the collection, contributing to acquisitions, loans, collection development and future exhibition opportunities
- Develop exhibition concepts and programs in collaboration with artists, lenders, colleagues, communities and external partners
- Contribute to publications, catalogues, labels, interpretation and other written and public-facing content
- Build and maintain strong professional networks across the visual arts sector,



including artists, galleries, museums, collectors, donors, government and community stakeholders
- Represent the Gallery professionally and contribute to its profile locally, nationally and internationally

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Research, plan, develop and deliver exhibitions and collection displays, working to agreed timelines, budgets and organisational priorities
- Identify and develop opportunities for acquisitions, loans, gifts, commissions and collection development
- Work closely with artists, lenders, guest curators, collectors, First Nations communities and internal teams to deliver exhibitions and projects
- Coordinate exhibition production, including installation and de-installation, labels, signage, loan documentation, copyright, images and other exhibition requirements
- Undertake research, writing, editing and publication management, including catalogues, essays, interpretation and promotional material
- Maintain accurate collection, project, financial and administrative records and contribute to reports, proposals and budgets
- Present exhibitions and research through floor talks, presentations, public programs and engagement with audiences and stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvement, organisational initiatives, team goals and a safe, collaborative and inclusive workplace
- Develop strong relationships with artists, lenders,



community groups and key cultural stakeholders to support exhibitions and programs

ABOUT YOU:
- Relevant qualifications or experience in a gallery or museum environment with a sound knowledge of the principles, practices and concepts of professional museum registration, conservation and storage methods
- Qualification in Art History, Visual arts and/or Museum studies with some industry experience or extensive relevant experience
- Experience working with artworks in a cultural collection, using collection management databases and collection management software.
- Extensive experience in exhibition installation across a wide range of art media and the handling of artworks
- Strong general knowledge of art history, both historic and contemporary
- Report and publication-standard writing skills along with oral presentation skills
- Demonstrated computer skills, including the use of databases
- Relevant specialist technical skills and experience in a gallery or museum environment
- Ability to meet moderate to heavy physical demands of role whilst observing OH&S; requirements
