Database Migration Specialist An exciting opportunity has opened up for an experienced Database Migration Specialist to join a well-established organisation on a key data consolidation project. You’ll be working within a collaborative technology delivery function, helping move critical data from legacy platforms into a up-to-date, purpose-built schema.

This role suits a hands-on database skilled with deep Oracle and SQL expertise who enjoys solving complex data problems and seeing a migration through from analysis to clean cutover.

THE ROLE Sitting within the technology delivery team, you’ll work closely with two in-house database specialists to compare existing schemas and migrate data from two legacy databases, including a third-party system, into a newly designed target database. Accuracy, data integrity, and a clean transition are central to success.

Key responsibilities include

- Accessing and analysing data held in a third-party legacy database
- Performing detailed schema comparisons across two legacy databases and the recent target schema
- Mapping, transforming, and migrating data into the new structure
- Writing and optimising complex SQL to support extraction, validation,



and reconciliation
- Building scripts and automation to streamline migration tasks
- Validating migrated data and resolving discrepancies with the wider team
- Documenting mappings, transformation rules, and migration outcomes

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

- Extensive hands-on experience with Oracle and SQL, including complex queries, joins, CTEs, subqueries, and views
- Proven experience delivering database schema comparisons and legacy data migrations
- Strong database design and modelling skills, including ERDs, normalisation/denormalization, and star or snowflake schemas
- Experience across relational and non-relational platforms such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, or Cassandra
- ETL and data pipeline experience using tools like Apache Airflow, dbt, or custom scripting
- Programming ability in Python, Java, C#, or R for automation and database interaction
- High attention to detail and a methodical approach to data integrity
