As we continue to grow and expand our product offering, we’re developing an exciting new wellness and spa range and are looking for an experienced Designer to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Head of Design, you’ll be responsible for the creative design and development of commercially relevant uniform ranges, taking product from initial concept through to production.
You’ll bring together modern design, brand identity, functionality, wearability, commerciality and quality to create products that look great, perform in real working environments and can be successfully manufactured at scale.
Working closely with our Head of Design, Garment Technician, Product and Sourcing teams, you’ll play a key role in bringing our new wellness and spa range to life.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Design & Range Development
- Develop original apparel concepts and coordinated ranges aligned with Cargo Crew’s brand and commercial strategy.
- Research market and colour trends, fabrics, trims, silhouettes, construction techniques and competitor products.
- Develop mood boards, colour palettes and design concepts.
- Translate trends and customer requirements into commercially viable uniform designs.
- Ensure products balance aesthetics with functionality, comfort, durability and the needs of the wearer.
Technical Design & Product Development
- Create accurate technical CAD sketches and detailed garment views.
- Develop artwork for prints, embroidery, logos, badges, labels and other branding applications.
- Prepare clear design information for manufacturers and technical teams.
- Research and select appropriate fabrics, trims and materials.
- Work closely with the Garment Technician throughout sampling, fitting and approvals.
- Participate in fit sessions and ensure final products maintain the original design intent.
Commercial & Production
- Design within agreed target cost and margin parameters.
- Consider manufacturing feasibility, fabric utilisation and production costs throughout the design process.
- Work with offshore suppliers and manufacturers throughout product development.
- Identify commercially viable alternatives where required.
- Balance innovation and newness with proven commercial product.
- Support products through development and into production.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?
You’ll bring:
- Ideally 3–5+ years’ experience in apparel design.
- A Diploma or Bachelor qualification in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Textile Design, Fashion Technology or similar.
- Strong creative design capability with an excellent understanding of colour, proportion and silhouette.
- Strong Adobe Illustrator skills, with Photoshop and InDesign experience desirable.
- A good understanding of garment construction, patterns, fit, fabrics, trims and manufacturing.
- Commercial awareness, including garment costing and target margins.
- Experience working with offshore manufacturers would be highly regarded.
- A demonstrated portfolio of commercial apparel design work.
- Experience in uniforms, corporate apparel, workwear or B2B apparel would be highly advantageous.
- Solid communication, organisation and project management skills.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
